iOS 9.1 was the first version of iOS to include emojis from Unicode 7.0 and Unicode 8.0. This update also included a number of retro-actively assigned emojis to the Apple Color Emoji font.

The iOS 9.1 emoji update was introduced to Macs with OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan, Apple Watch with watchOS 2.0 and Apple TV with tvOS 9.1.

About Apple Emojis

Apple emojis are used on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV. These are included as part of the Apple Color Emoji font.

WhatsApp uses Apple emoji images on all platforms, including Android. Custom stickers available in the iOS 10 Messages app supported for all iMessage users. Apple also has its own animated emoji sticker series for Apple Watch.
