Released on 5 March 2024 for iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4, this was the first version of iOS to support the 118 new emojis in <a href="/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a>, including various direction-specific people emojis.

This update also changed all family emojis to display with one of the four silhouette symbol designs also used for the new non-gender-specifying family emojis added in <a href="/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a>.

New emojis from Apple for 2022&nbsp;available as part of&nbsp;iOS 15.4, iPadOS 15.4, tvOS 15.4, watchOS 8.5, and macOS 12.3.

Released on 14&nbsp;March 2022, this was the first version of iOS to support the 112 new emojis in&nbsp;<a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>, including various multiple skin tone versions of the <a href="/handshake/">🤝 Handshake</a> emoji.

This Apple emoji update changed the appearance of the <a href="/face-with-hand-over-mouth/">🤭&nbsp;Face with Hand Over Mouth</a>&nbsp;emoji to be more consistent with the designs of other vendors, with this emoji&#39;s originaly design being given to the new <a href="/emoji-14.0/">🫢 Face with Open Eyes and Hand Over Mouth</a>&nbsp;emoji.

Taking into account a series of additional&nbsp;<a href="/glossary/#non-rgi">non-RGI</a>&nbsp;<a href="/handshake/">🤝 Handshake</a> emoji sequences, there are 123 new emojis in this release.

iOS 15.4

Released on 2021-05-24, this update changed the appearance&nbsp;of the various&nbsp;<a href="/person-climbing/">🧗 Person Climbing</a> emojis to have the person wearing a safety helmet.

iOS 14.6

New emojis from Apple for 2021 available as part of&nbsp;iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5, tvOS 14.5, watchOS 7.4, and macOS 11.3.

This Apple emoji update changed the appearance of the&nbsp;<a href="/syringe/">💉&nbsp;Syringe</a>&nbsp;emoji&nbsp;to remove the blood, and added mixed skin tone support to&nbsp;<a href="/kiss/">💏&nbsp;Kiss</a> and <a href="/couple-with-heart/">💑&nbsp;Couple with Heart</a>.

Released on 26&nbsp;April 2021, this was the first version of iOS to support the 217 new emojis in&nbsp;<a href="/emoji-13.1/">Emoji 13.1</a>. Taking into account <a href="/glossary/#non-rgi">non-RGI</a> emoji sequences, there&nbsp;there are 669 new emojis in this release.

iOS 14.5

New emojis from Apple for 2020 released on iOS 14.2, iPad OS 14.2 and macOS 11 Big Sur.&nbsp;Emoji additions included&nbsp;<a href="/bubble-tea/">🧋 Bubble Tea</a>, <a href="/transgender-flag/">🏳️&zwj;⚧️ Transgender Flag</a>, <a href="/pinched-fingers/">🤌 Pinched Fingers</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/smiling-face-with-tear/">🥲 Smiling Face with Tear.</a>

This Apple emoji update changed the appearance of&nbsp;<a href="/person-with-veil/">👰 Person With Veil </a>and&nbsp;<a href="/person-in-tuxedo/">🤵 Person in Tuxedo</a> to gender neutral designs, with new sequences added to support gender-specific options for women or men. This software version also changed the appearance of&nbsp;<a href="/face-with-medical-mask/">😷 Face with Medical Mask</a> to smile.

iOS 14.2

A minor update which fixed a bug where <a href="/apple/ios-13.3/men-holding-hands-medium-skin-tone-medium-dark-skin-tone/">one variation of men holding hands</a>&nbsp;previously showed <a href="/apple/ios-13.2/men-holding-hands-medium-skin-tone-medium-dark-skin-tone/">an incorrect set of skin tones</a>. This change applies to iOS 13.3, iPadOS 13.3 and macOS 10.15.2.

iOS 12.2

iOS 12.1

iOS 11.3 was a minor update to the iOS emoji set. The main change in this release is the modification of four emojis used in Apple&#39;s separate Animoji feature. First <a href="https://www.apple.com/uk/newsroom/2018/01/apple-previews-ios-11-3/">announced</a> in January&nbsp;2018, this release was finalized in March 2018.

iOS 11.3

iOS 11.2 changed a number of emojis, most notably reverting the <a href="/tumbler-glass/">Tumbler Glass</a> to a previous design.

iOS 11.2

iOS 11.1 was released on October 31, 2017 and&nbsp;includes 240 new emojis&nbsp;including&nbsp;<a href="/giraffe/">Giraffe</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/face-vomiting/">Face Vomiting</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/genie/">Genie</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/sauropod/">Sauropod (dinosaur)</a> and <a href="/emoji-5.0/">more</a>. A number of existing emojis changed in this update, such as <a href="/honeybee/">Honeybee</a>, <a href="/ram/">Ram</a>, and <a href="/tumbler-glass/">Tumbler Glass</a>.

These&nbsp;emoji updates are included as part of iOS 11.1 for iPhone and iPad, macOS High Sierra 10.3.1 for Mac, watchOS 4.1 for Apple Watch and tvOS 11.1 for Apple TV.

iOS 10.3

This release&nbsp;added support for <a href="/unicode-9.0/">Unicode 9</a> emojis, as well as&nbsp;new professions and&nbsp;a graphical redesign. iOS 10.0

iOS 9.1 was the first version of iOS&nbsp;to include emojis from <a href="/unicode-7.0/">Unicode 7.0</a> and <a href="/unicode-8.0/">Unicode 8.0</a>. This update&nbsp;also included a number of retro-actively assigned emojis to the Apple Color Emoji font.

The iOS 9.1 emoji update was introduced to Macs with&nbsp;OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan, Apple Watch with&nbsp;watchOS 2.0 and Apple TV with tvOS 9.1.

iOS 9.1

iOS 9.0 added 44 new emoji flags, primarily consisting of smaller countries and territories. OS X El Capitan 10.11.0 was released on September 30, 2015 and supports the same range of flags.

iOS 9.0

iOS 8.3&nbsp;was the first version of iOS&nbsp;to include <a href="/emoji-modifier-sequence/">emoji modifiers</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/zero-width-joiner/">ZWJ</a>&nbsp;sequences for family&nbsp;combinations. This release also added 198 country&nbsp;flags, and updated artwork for many existing emojis.

The iOS 8.3&nbsp;emoji update was introduced to Macs with&nbsp;OS X 10.10.3&nbsp;Yosemite.

iOS 8.3

iOS 5.1&nbsp;was released in March 2012 and was the first version of Apple&#39;s emoji font to use cross-platform compatible emoji codepoints from the&nbsp;Unicode Standard.&nbsp;Previous releases of iOS supported emoji characters in the private use area of Unicode.

Support for a number of new emojis was available in this release, but not these new emojis were not displayed&nbsp;on the iOS emoji keyboard. As such, widespread use of emojis from <a href="/unicode-6.0/">Unicode 6.0</a> was not achieved until the release of <a href="/apple/ios-6.0/">iOS 6.0</a>&nbsp;later in 2012.

Emojis in this release were also supported in Mac OS X 10.7.4 and above.
