A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moai">moai</a>, one of the famed, giant stone statues of human figures&nbsp;on Easter Island. Depicted as a gray&nbsp;stone carving of a stylized human head with a prominent brow and nose, most often facing left.

Sometimes used for various idiosyncratic purposes, such as conveying a stoic, deadpan, or silly expression.

Its official Unicode name of Moyai&nbsp;and inclusion in early Japanese emoji sets, such as from au by KDDI, suggest&nbsp;the emoji may represent the <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g1066456-d1953259-Reviews-Moyai_Statue-Shibuya_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html">Moyai Statue</a> near Shibuya Station in Tokyo, Japan; previous designs from <a href="/google/android-4.3/moai/">Google</a> and <a href="/microsoft/windows-8.0/moai/">Microsoft</a>&nbsp;resemble the Tokyo statue. Other Tokyo landmarks are represented in&nbsp;<a href="/tokyo-tower/">🗼&nbsp;Tokyo Tower</a> and, formerly, <a href="/shibuya/">Shibuya 109</a>.

A Japanese&nbsp;post office, featuring the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_postal_mark">〒 Japanese postal mark</a> on the front of the building.

Microsoft&#39;s design <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/japanese-post-office/">previously</a>&nbsp;displayed this mark on its own&nbsp;instead of being featured on the building.

This emoji is generally displayed as a forward-facing train, with some platforms also displaying a tunnel as a circle surrounding the train. Apple&#39;s artwork shows the characters&nbsp;IL2&nbsp;which may be a reference to one of the more <a href="https://www.wired.com/story/apple-infinite-loop-oral-history/">locked-down buildings&nbsp;at Apple&#39;s Infinite Loop</a> Headquarters during iPhone development&nbsp;(IL2 = Infinite Loop 2).

Metro

A small sand-covered island with a central&nbsp;<a href="/palm-tree">palm tree</a>. Occasionally also features a <a href="/coconut">coconut </a>or two.

The flag for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan">Japan</a>, which may show as the letters&nbsp;JP&nbsp;on some platforms.

109 is a chain of Japanese department&nbsp;stores, with the most well known location being in Shibuya, Tokyo &mdash; Shibuya 109.&nbsp;An emoji&nbsp;of this store existed in the original Softbank emoji set in Japan, but did not get included as part of emoji standardization in <a href="/unicode-6.0/" title="Unicode Version 6.0">Unicode 6.0</a>.

This was one of the few emojis <a href="/apple/ios-5.0/shibuya/" title=" Shibuya on Apple iOS 5.0">available</a> in Apple iOS 6, that did not remain in future iOS or macOS releases. Despite this, it continues to be supported by&nbsp;<a href="/twitter/">Twemoji</a>.

The details of its <a href="https://github.com/googlei18n/emoji4unicode/issues/35">exclusion</a>&nbsp;are&nbsp;noted in Google&#39;s&nbsp;project to bring emoji into Unicode. The codepoint for Shibuya remains a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_Use_Areas">Private Use Area</a>&nbsp;character where implemented.

Shibuya

A framed picture of a painting or photograph, as displayed in a gallery or on a household wall. Vendors feature various scenes, though generally a lush, sunny landscape of hills and <a href="/mountain/">mountains</a>, in a gold frame.

Commonly used for various content concerning&nbsp;art, museums, and interior design and decor. May also be used as an icon for a picture, as before an upload, link, or credit.

Microsoft&rsquo;s design <a href="/microsoft/windows-11/framed-picture/">previously</a> showed <a href="/ninja-cat/">Ninja Cat</a>.&nbsp;An&nbsp;earlier Microsoft&nbsp;design&nbsp;<a href="/microsoft/windows-10/framed-picture/">featured</a>&nbsp;the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mona_Lisa">Mona Lisa</a>, as did a previous&nbsp;<a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/framed-picture/">Samsung</a>&nbsp;design. Google&#39;s design <a href="/google/android-8.0/framed-picture/">previously</a> displayed&nbsp;the scene depicted in its&nbsp;<a href="/national-park/">🏞️ National Park</a>&nbsp;emoji.

The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Tower">Tokyo Tower</a> is the second-tallest building in Japan, located in&nbsp;Minato, Tokyo.

Built in 1957, the design of the Tokyo Tower &nbsp;was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, <a href="/flag-france/" title="🇫🇷 Flag For France">France</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;may be confused for it due to the small size of the emoji. A previous Samsung design also added to this confusion as it was colored grey instead of red and white.

Tokyo Tower

The flag for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chile">Chile</a>, which may show as the letters&nbsp;CL&nbsp;on some platforms.

Can occasionally be confused for a <a href="/flag-for-texas-ustx">Flag for Texas</a> emoji, which does not have broad cross-platform emoji support.

Facebook implements the same designs as for its <a href="/hammer/">🔨&nbsp;Hammer</a> and <a href="/pick/">⛏️&nbsp;Pick</a>. Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0/">previously featured</a> stylized, white tools on a green square, as a sign or icon of a mine.

Hammer and Pick

A yellow face with simple, open eyes and a flat, closed mouth. Intended to depict a neutral sentiment but often used to convey mild irritation and concern or a deadpan sense of humor.

Neutral Face

A yellow face with flat, closed eyes and mouth. May convey a sense of frustration or annoyance more intense than suggested by&nbsp;<a href="/neutral-face/">😐 Neutral Face</a>,&nbsp;as if taking a moment to collect itself.

Microsoft&#39;s design <a href="/microsoft/windows-8.1/expressionless-face/">previously</a> displayed this emoji with its eyes open, while Samsung&#39;s design <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/expressionless-face/">previously</a> had eyebrows.

Expressionless Face

A jewel or gem, as set into a <a href="/ring/">ring</a>. Depicted in the shape of a classic diamond but in the bright blue color of an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beryl#Aquamarine_and_maxixe">aquamarine</a>.

Commonly used for various content concerning jewelry, as upon an engagement or <a href="/wedding-marriage/">marriage</a>. May also convey various literal and figurative senses of beauty, wealth, sophistication, preciousness, and sparkling.

Gem Stone

A classic smiley, turned upside down. Implemented as a flipped version of&nbsp;<a href="/slightly-smiling-face/">🙂 Slightly Smiling Face</a>&nbsp;on most platforms.

Commonly used to convey&nbsp;irony, sarcasm, joking, or a sense of goofiness or silliness.&nbsp;Its intent can be&nbsp;similar to the bemused Oh well! of <a href="/person-shrugging/">🤷&nbsp;Person Shrugging</a> or the shruggie emoticon, &macr;\_(ツ)_/&macr;.

Upside-Down Face

A Japanese <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_chime#Eastern_and_Southern_Asia">wind chime</a>. Depicted as a glass bell with a strip of paper suspended from its clapper, often decorated with <a href="/cherry-blossom/">cherry blossom</a>-like flowers.

Occasionally used for content concerning various senses of wind and chime. Thanks to its appearance, often used to represent jellyfish.

Wind Chime
