While this emoji is often used by people calling themselves nerds in a self-deprecating way, the nerdy glasses paired with buck teeth can, and often does, evoke anti-Asian stereotypes. The fact that the default color of emoji faces is yellow further pushes this emoji into racist &quot;<a href="https://hyperallergic.com/189200/asians-meet-new-yellow-emoji-with-frowny-face/">yellowface</a>&quot;&nbsp;territory.

Some platforms have redesigned nerd face&nbsp;over time to not have buck teeth, perhaps in acknowledgement of the harm this imagery&nbsp;may cause. Google, WhatsApp, Facebook, and JoyPixels <a href="/da/google/android-7.0/n%C3%B8rdansigt/">originally</a> <a href="/da/facebook/2.0/n%C3%B8rdansigt/">featured</a> <a href="/da/joypixels/4.0/n%C3%B8rdansigt/">designs</a> with buck teeth but have since changed (or completely removed) the teeth on nerd face.

Apple, Twitter, Microsoft, Samsung, and other platforms still use designs for this emoji that include buck teeth.

A cartoon-style balloon used to represent spoken word in comics. Sometimes &nbsp;used in communication apps to&nbsp;indicate that another person is typing a message.

The designs from Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Samsung resemble phones offered by their respective companies, e.g., iPhone. WhatsApp&rsquo;s design features a night sky as its wallpaper, displaying the time as 9:34.

A <a href="/da/mobil/">mobile phone</a> (cell phone) with a <a href="/da/pil-mod-h%C3%B8jre/">rightward&nbsp;arrow</a> pointed at it from the left. Intended to indicate an incoming call or message, but used to represent mobile phones, technology, and communication more generally.

Mobil Med Pil

An electric plug, as inserted into socket to power a device. Depicted as a black, two-pronged plug at various angles at the end of a cable. Prongs are silver or gold.

Commonly used for various literal and figurative content concerning electricity and power. May also be used for various slang senses of plug, e.g., a connection or hookup.

Apple and WhatsApp&rsquo;s designs suggest a plug used in North America and Japan while other platforms, including Google and Samsung, suggest one used in Europe and many other parts of the world.

Stik

A desktop personal computer. Generally depicted as a black or gray monitor with a dark or blue screen.

Trackball

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MiniDisc">minidisc</a>, depicted as a small, silver or gold <a href="/da/cd/">optical disc</a> housed in a square cartridge, its shutter positioned to the right.

<a href="http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/02/sony-announces-the-end-of-the-minidisc/">Discontinued</a> as an audio and data storage format in 2013 due to the success of CD and MP3 technology, though the emoji is commonly used to represent CDs, DVDs, and related film and music content, especially albums.
