Desktop Computer

While this emoji is often used by people calling themselves nerds in a self-deprecating way, the nerdy glasses paired with buck teeth can, and often does, evoke anti-Asian stereotypes. Nerd Face

A friendly-looking, tentacled space creature with two eyes. Most major platforms style their design after aliens in classic arcade games like <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Invaders">Space Invaders</a>, rendering it purple and pixellated, as if in 8-bit graphics.

Samsung&rsquo;s design resembles an <a href="/octopus/">octopus</a> and <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/alien-monster/">previously featured</a> a big-brained <a href="/alien/">alien</a>, &agrave; la <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cage_(Star_Trek:_The_Original_Series)">Star Trek</a>. May be used of topics concerning extraterrestrial life,&nbsp;outer space, gaming, and computing, but also enjoys a range of idiosyncratic applications, such as&nbsp;conveying a&nbsp;sense of weirdness, wackiness, or excitement, given that the emoji looks like it is raising its arms shouting&nbsp;Yay! on many platforms.

Alien Monster

The head of a&nbsp;classic robot. Commonly depicted as a vintage, tin&nbsp;toy robot with circular eyes, a triangular nose, knobs for&nbsp;ears, a light and/or antennae atop its head, and a grill-like mouth similar to a <a href="/grimacing-face/">grimace</a>. Colors vary across platform, but its head is metallic on most platforms.&nbsp;

May be used of topics concerning robotics, electronics, computer programming, futurism, and science fiction. It also enjoys a range of idiosyncratic applications, such as conveying a sense of weirdness and fun as well as alarm, surprise, and excitement, given its wide-eyed, teeth-gritting expression.

Also often used to discuss artificial intelligence and various AI-branded products and features, though the <a href="/sparkles">✨ Sparkles</a> emoji has become the go-to symbol to represent AI within tech platforms.

Trackball
