This update to Google&#39;s Noto Color Emoji set introduced support for 2023&#39;s <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a> recommendations.

Additionally, the family emojis have been changed to have a silhouette icon design, matching the new non-gender-specifying family emojis from&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a>.

First made available via Github on 2023-11-17, this update is expected to be&nbsp;released progressively across different Google platforms such as Chrome OS, Gmail, YouTube, and various Android devices.

First released as a&nbsp;color vector&nbsp;font file on 2022-09-14, this update to Google&#39;s Noto Color Emoji set introduced support for <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.0/">Emoji 15.0</a> emoji such as <a href="https://emojipedia.org/shaking-face/">Shaking Face</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/pink-heart/">Pink Heart</a>.

This update also included minor revisions to select emoji designs,&nbsp;including all of the hand gestures.

The update was released progressively across different Google platforms such as Chrome OS, Gmail, and YouTube between September 2022 and their release within&nbsp;Android 13 in March 2023.&nbsp;

15.0

First made available via as a&nbsp;Developer Preview on&nbsp;2021-10-27, Android 12L was&nbsp;the first vendor update to&nbsp;include support for 2021&rsquo;s <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> recommendations. Devices running Android 12&nbsp;also began to receive this emoji update via subsequent security updates.&nbsp;

Android 12L

Released to eligible Pixel devices on&nbsp;2021-10-04, Android 12.0 updated the designs of almost one thousand previously available emojis.&nbsp;

Android 10.0

Android 9.0 &ldquo;Pie&rdquo; was released on 2018-08-06 and was the first Android release to support <a href="/emoji-11.0/">Emoji 11.0</a>.

Android 9.0

Google Android 8.1 was released on December 5, 2017 without a gradual rollout to supported devices. This release <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/google-fixes-burger-emoji/">fixes the burger emoji issue</a> from&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-8.0/">Android 8.0</a>, as well as the emojis for <a href="/cheese-wedge/">cheese</a>, <a href="/beer-mug/">beer</a>, and <a href="/clinking-beer-mugs/">beers</a>.

Android 8.1

Android 8.0 &quot;Oreo&quot; was released on August 21, 2017. This update included a complete redesign of every emoji, including a transformation of all &quot;blob&quot;&nbsp;smileys into a more common circle shape.

Android 8.0

A light-brown or yellow rectangular tag, as labelled and attached to a <a href="/key/">key</a>. Depicted&nbsp;at various angles&nbsp;punched with a hole, generally with a metal ring or loop of string.

Commonly used to represent a price tag or metadata tag as well as for various senses of label.

WhatsApp&#39;s is white.&nbsp;Apple removed&nbsp;its ring from <a href="/apple/ios-10.2/label/">earlier&nbsp;designs</a>. Samsung <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/label/">previously featured</a> the easter egg initials HMJ,&nbsp;while&nbsp;Google&#39;s design <a href="/google/android-8.0/label/">previously</a>&nbsp;featured&nbsp;two tags.

Label

A bookmark, as used to mark one&#39;s&nbsp;place in a <a href="/open-book/">book</a>. May also represent bookmarks on an internet browser. Appearance varies across platforms, but generally depicted at&nbsp;a 45&deg; angle as a thin, white or red strip with a decorative tie and design, such as flower or <a href="/star/">star</a>.

May be used for various content concerning reading, labeling, or tagging.

WhatsApp&rsquo;s bookmark is purple. Twitter&rsquo;s design shows a red bookmark in a closed book, similar to previous designs from <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/bookmark/">Microsoft</a>. <a href="/twitter/twemoji-1.0/bookmark/">Twitter</a> and <a href="/google/android-7.0/bookmark/">Google&rsquo;s</a> designs previously featured a blue bookmark.

Not to be confused with<a href="/label/"> 🏷️ Label</a>.

Bookmark

A name badge, used to identify oneself in a location that others may not know your name, such as a <a href="/school/" title="🏫 School">school</a> trip, or a <a href="/briefcase/" title="💼 Briefcase">work</a> conference.

This&nbsp;<a href="/tulip/" title="🌷 Tulip">tulip</a>-shaped&nbsp;name badge is one of many designs commonly found&nbsp;at <a href="http://twins.bovaird.us/2015/04/japanese-kindergarten/">kindergartens</a> in Japan.

Name Badge

A tabbed folder, as used to file papers in a <a href="/file-cabinet/">cabinet</a> or as an icon for a file on a <a href="/desktop-computer/">computer</a>. Most platforms depict a yellow folder, as manila, with the tab shown at the left.

File Folder

A slightly open tabbed folder, as used to file papers in a <a href="/file-cabinet/">cabinet</a> or as an icon for an opened folder when using&nbsp;a <a href="/desktop-computer/">computer</a>. Most platforms depict a yellow folder, as manila, with the tab shown at the left.

Commonly used for various content concerning filing, organization, and work, especially at an <a href="/office-building/">office</a>.

Apple&rsquo;s folder is gray, Twitter&rsquo;s is blue. Google&rsquo;s design features multiple tabs, Microsoft&rsquo;s a red tab.

Nearly identical in appearance and use to <a href="/file-folder/">📁 File Folder</a>, which is closed.

Open File Folder

A suitcase or bag, as used for traveling. Most platforms depict gray or blue rolling luggage with an extended handle. Commonly used for various content concerning traveling or taking trips, whether for business or leisure.

Apple&rsquo;s design features an old-fashioned, leather, trunk-styled case with graphic <a href="https://www.citylab.com/design/2013/05/lost-art-luggage-labels/5652/">luggage labels</a>/stickers, not to be confused with <a href="/briefcase/">💼&nbsp;Briefcase</a> or <a href="/handbag/">👜&nbsp;Handbag</a>. Google and Facebook also include such stickers.

May be stored in a <a href="/left-luggage/">🛅 Coin Locker</a> or inspected at <a href="/customs/">🛃&nbsp;Customs</a>.

Luggage

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MiniDisc">minidisc</a>, depicted as a small, silver or gold <a href="/optical-disk/">optical disc</a> housed in a square cartridge, its shutter positioned to the right.

<a href="http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/02/sony-announces-the-end-of-the-minidisc/">Discontinued</a> as an audio and data storage format in 2013 due to the success of CD and MP3 technology, though the emoji is commonly used to represent CDs, DVDs, and related film and music content, especially albums.

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/computer-disk/">previously featured</a> a silver disc labeled MD, for minidisc. <a href="/au-kddi/type-a-2/computer-disk/">Early designs</a> from au by KDDI showed an angled <a href="/floppy-disk/">💾 Floppy Disk</a>, perhaps as being inserted or ejected into a computer drive.

A silver <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_disc">optical disc</a>, as a CD or <a href="/dvd/">DVD</a>, used to play music or movies before the rise of streaming technology. Commonly used to represent CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, and related film and music content, especially albums.

Optical Disc

Heavy Dollar Sign

A red envelope, as gifted with money on <a href="/chinese-new-year/">Chinese New Year</a> or on other joyous occasions, such as <a href="/wedding-marriage/">weddings</a>, in&nbsp;Chinese and some other Asian cultures around the world.

Depicted as a red, vertical envelope with a gold design, typically featuring the Chinese character <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fu_(character)">福</a> (f&uacute;, &ldquo;good fortune, luck, happiness&quot;). A square shown in the color yellow. May be used to represent anything yellow, including a yellow penalty card&nbsp;in football (soccer).

Large Yellow Square

A package (parcel), as contains items ordered online. Depicted at various angles as a light-brown, cardboard box, with a shipping label and its top taped shut.

Commonly used for content concerning shipping, delivery, and moving as well as for boxes more generally.

Womans Clothes

A square shown in the color&nbsp;of brown. May be used to represent anything brown.

A Tanabata tree, a type of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wish_tree">wish tree</a> on which people hang wishes written on paper and other decorations during <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanabata">Tanabata</a>, a Japanese festival celebrating two heavenly lovers. Depicted as one or two stalks of green bamboo, on which hangs one or more slips of paper, generally red.

Often used to represent various plants or as a green accent color.
