Microsoft’s bursts were previously blue lines, Apple’s star previously resembled its ⭐ Star emoji, and Samsung’s star previously displayed a burst radiating out from its center.

Glowing Star was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
