Google emoji images are used on most Android devices, Gmail Web Interface, Google Meet, and ChromeOS. There are also two additional Noto Emoji variants: the&nbsp;minimalist <a href="https://emojipedia.org/noto-emoji/">Noto Emoji font</a>, and an <a href="https://emojipedia.org/animated-noto-color-emoji/">animated subset of Noto Color Emoji</a> designs used by the Messages by Google mobile app.

This update to Google&#39;s Noto Color Emoji set introduced support for 2023&#39;s <a href="/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a> recommendations.

Additionally, the family emojis have been changed to have a silhouette icon design, matching the new non-gender-specifying family emojis from&nbsp;<a href="/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a>.

First made available via Github on 2023-11-17, this update was released progressively across different Google platforms such as Chrome OS, Gmail, YouTube, and various Android devices.

First released as a&nbsp;color vector&nbsp;font file on 2022-09-14, this update to Google&#39;s Noto Color Emoji set introduced support for <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.0/">Emoji 15.0</a> emoji such as <a href="https://emojipedia.org/shaking-face/">Shaking Face</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/pink-heart/">Pink Heart</a>.

This update also included minor revisions to select emoji designs,&nbsp;including all of the hand gestures.

The update was released progressively across different Google platforms such as Chrome OS, Gmail, and YouTube between September 2022 and their release within&nbsp;Android 13 in March 2023.&nbsp;

First made available via as a&nbsp;Developer Preview on&nbsp;2021-10-27, Android 12L was&nbsp;the first vendor update to&nbsp;include support for 2021&rsquo;s <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> recommendations. Devices running Android 12&nbsp;also began to receive this emoji update via subsequent security updates.&nbsp;

Released to eligible Pixel devices on&nbsp;2021-10-04, Android 12.0 updated the designs of almost one thousand previously available emojis.&nbsp;

Android 9.0 &ldquo;Pie&rdquo; was released on 2018-08-06 and was the first Android release to support <a href="/emoji-11.0/">Emoji 11.0</a>.

Google Android 8.1 was released on December 5, 2017 without a gradual rollout to supported devices. This release <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/google-fixes-burger-emoji/">fixes the burger emoji issue</a> from&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-8.0/">Android 8.0</a>, as well as the emojis for <a href="/cheese-wedge/">cheese</a>, <a href="/beer-mug/">beer</a>, and <a href="/clinking-beer-mugs/">beers</a>.

Android 8.1

Android 8.0 &quot;Oreo&quot; was released on August 21, 2017. This update included a complete redesign of every emoji, including a transformation of all &quot;blob&quot;&nbsp;smileys into a more common circle shape.

Android 7.1

Android 7.0 Nougat&nbsp;is the first release of Android to support <a href="/emoji-modifier-sequence/">modifiers</a> for skin tone. Design changes from <a href="/google/android-6.0.1/">Android 6.0.1</a>&nbsp;include front-facing smileys, and a replacement of gender-neutral &quot;blob&quot; characters with male/female versions.

Google <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20081229232412/http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/picture-is-worth-thousand-words.html">released</a>&nbsp;an original&nbsp;set of 79&nbsp;animated emoji characters for Gmail on 2008-10-23. <a href="https://www.fastcompany.com/3037803/the-oral-history-of-the-poop-emoji-or-how-google-brought-poop-to-america">Designed</a> by Ryan Germick and Susie Sahim, this set was known internally at Google as&nbsp;goomoji. These unique designs&nbsp;were implemented following Gmail&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="http://japan.googleblog.com/2008/02/gmail.html">initial emoji support</a> in&nbsp;Japan, which used images from <a href="/au-kddi/">au by KDDI</a>.

66 of the 79 emojis in this set <a href="https://android.googlesource.com/platform/external/skia/+/donut-release2/emoji/gmojiraw.txt">map&nbsp;directly</a> to the first emoji code points added to&nbsp;<a href="/unicode-6.0/">Unicode 6.0</a>.&nbsp;The remaining 13 emojis were added to Unicode in subsequent years.

Implemented using Private Use Area code points, these have been mapped to their modern Unicode code points for display here.
