Unicode 15.0 is the version of the Unicode Standard&nbsp;released on&nbsp;September 13, 2022. 20&nbsp;new emoji&nbsp;code points were added in this release,&nbsp;with all 31 new emojis (including sequences)&nbsp;listed under <a href="/emoji-15.0/">Emoji 15.0</a>.

New emojis&nbsp;added in this release are update expected to come to major all platforms throughout 2023.&nbsp;Now available via&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/apple/ios-16.4/">iOS 16.4</a>, as well as select&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/samsung/one-ui-5.0/">Samsung devices</a>&nbsp;and Google platforms.

Discord supports the use of emoji via shortcodes, with the majority of emojis displayed as images from the <a href="/twitter/">Twemoji</a>&nbsp;design set. Native emojis inserted are also converted to shortcodes and displayed with images where supported.

In December 2023, Discord introduced support for <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.0">Emoji 15.0</a>, implementing designs distinct from&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/twitter">Twitter / X&#39;s</a> <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.0">Emoji 15.0</a> support release in June 2023.

This divergence was required to due the discontinuation of the official Twemoji project as an open-source resource in October 2022.&nbsp;The new Discord designs are drawn from former Twemoji designer&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/jdecked/twemoji">Justine De Caires&#39; Github offshoot</a> of the official project, which remains open source and where Discord designers have also made contributions.

Discord&#39;s emoji support was previously limited to <a href="/emoji-3.0/">Emoji 3.0</a>&nbsp;(2016) until an update in November 2019 provided support for Emoji 12.0, via <a href="/twitter/twemoji-12.1.4/">Twemoji 12.1.4</a>. Collectively, this update brought support for the&nbsp;following new emojis to Discord for the first time:

In addition to regular emoji use, reactions are also available. This allows any emoji to be chosen as a response to a message. Reactions are tallied if multiple users apply the same emojis.

The <a href="https://emojipedia.org/pleading-face">🥺 Pleading Face&nbsp;</a>and <a href="https://emojipedia.org/face-holding-back-tears">🥹 Face Holding Back Tears</a>&nbsp;emojis were also changed in this Discord emoji update, reflecting a change previously made within the Twemoji offshoot Github.

Turned Ok Hand Sign

Custom emoji set used on LG devices. Discontinued between 2017 and 2020, replaced by Noto Color Emoji, but then revived in 2021 for LG&rsquo;s final mobile device.

The Unicode Consortium approved the following characters as part of <a href="http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode7.0.0/">Unicode 7.0</a>, released on June 16, 2014.&nbsp;Support for these emoji characters rely on updates from platform vendors such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

Initially, 250&nbsp;new characters in Unicode 7.0 were approved for emoji presentation, however this was later reduced to 103 Standard Additions which are listed below. The other characters remain part of Unicode, but are not recommended&nbsp;to be included as emojis.

The exception to this was the <a href="/left-speech-bubble/" title="🗨 Left Speech Bubble">Left Speech Bubble</a>, and as such wasn&#39;t initially specified on other platforms as an emoji. A later-accepted&nbsp;<a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/diverse-spy-proposal/">proposal</a>&nbsp;updated this.

Select LG devices use their own emoji images which are different to those used on other Android devices.

Prior to 2016 all LG devices carried LG&rsquo;s own emoji designs. However, LG phones sold from 2017 between and early 2021 used the <a href="/google/">stock Android emoji set</a> from Google.

This changed in early 2021 with the rollout of Android 11 to <a href="/lg/velvet/">LG Velvet devices</a>, reviving and expanding the LG emoji set to include support for up to 2019&#39;s <a href="/emoji-12.0/">Emoji 12.0</a> recommendations.

Note:&nbsp;<a href="/whatsapp/">WhatsApp</a>, <a href="/twitter/">Twitter</a>, and <a href="/facebook/">Facebook</a> have their&nbsp;own emoji designs&nbsp;which are used&nbsp;instead of Google or LG emojis in their respective apps on Android devices.
