A heart symbol emoji,&nbsp;used in card games&nbsp;for the hearts&nbsp;suit. In emoji form, this is most <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/what-every-heart-emoji-really-means/">commonly used for love, affectiction, romance and positive intentions</a>.&nbsp;Sometimes shown in a slightly darker shade of red than&nbsp;<a href="/red-heart/">❤️ Red Heart</a>.

Apple&#39;s design <a href="/apple/ios-5.1/heart-suit/">previously</a> displayed the heart symbol on a white playing card.

Note: the Unicode Character Database (UCD)&nbsp;name &ldquo;Black Heart Suit&rdquo;&nbsp;pre-dates color emoji, when the term referred to a solid, black &hearts;&nbsp;heart suit character. Black Heart Suit

Used across Microsoft PCs. Windows 11 uses the Fluent set. Windows 10&rsquo;s final update was in May 2019.

Unicode 1.1 were pre-dated emoji inclusion in Unicode by 17 years, and included many characters primarily sourced from the Zapf Dingbats font.

The following characters were added to Unicode in 1993 and many were given emoji presentation status in the years 2010-2015.

Microsoft Windows 11&nbsp;launched&nbsp;on 2021-10-05, and was the first version of Windows update to support&nbsp;<a href="/emoji-12.1/">Emoji 12.1</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="/emoji-13.0/">Emoji 13.0</a>. Emojis in this release are displayed in the thick outlined&nbsp;Segoe Color Emoji&nbsp;style from Windows 10, instead of the <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/new-fluent-emoji-designs-from-microsoft/">Fluent designs</a> previewed ahead of <a href="https://worldemojiday.com/">World Emoji Day 2021</a>.

Support for <a href="/emoji-12.1/">Emoji 12.1</a>&nbsp;and <a href="/emoji-13.0/">Emoji 13.0</a>&nbsp;was initially made available via Windows 10 Insiders Builds <a href="https://twitter.com/Emojipedia/status/1337183890063187971">in December 2020</a>.

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is the major release that followed <a href="/microsoft/windows-10-creators-update/">Windows 10 Creators Update</a>. Released on October 17, 2017 this update added support for <a href="/emoji-5.0/">Emoji 5.0</a> and changed the appearance of a number of existing emojis.

Windows 10 Creators Update was the first major&nbsp;emoji update from Microsoft in 2017.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version&nbsp;1607), aka &quot;Emojiversary Update&quot;&nbsp;was <a href="https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2016/06/29/windows-10-anniversary-update-available-august-2/">released</a> on August 2, 2016 and&nbsp;included&nbsp;a complete redesign of every emoji in the Segoe UI Emoji font.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update

The first release of Windows 10, version 1507,&nbsp;added support for emoji <a href="/emoji-modifier-sequence/">modifiers</a>, as well as other changes to <a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/windows-10-emoji-changelog/">increase cross-platform consistency</a>. It was otherwise similar to <a href="/microsoft/windows-8.1/">Windows 8.1</a>.

This release was superceded by <a href="/microsoft/windows-10-anniversary-update/">Windows 10 Anniversary Update</a> on August 2, 2016.

Windows 8 came with support for black and white emoji images out of the box, as part of the new Segoe UI Emoji font. This font was also&nbsp;<a href="http://www.istartedsomething.com/20120818/microsoft-backports-windows-8-emoji-for-segoe-ui-symbol-to-windows-7/">backported</a> for Windows 7 users, alongside the release of Windows 8.
