Beginning its global rollout on 2024-06-25, this Windows11 23H2 update (KB5039302 - OS Builds 22621.3810 and 22631.3810)&nbsp;introduced support for <a href="/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a> to both the flat and 3D versions of the Fluent emoji design set.

Windows 11 23H2 June 2024 Update

Beginning its global rollout on 2023-10-31, the Windows11 23H2 update introduced support for <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.0">Emoji 15.0</a>&nbsp;to the flat versions of the&nbsp;Fluent emoji design set used by the OS since its <a href="https://emojipedia.org/microsoft/windows-11-november-2021-update">November 2021</a> update.

This update also redesigned a selection of emojis within the flat Fluent set. These redesigns include many smiley emojis&nbsp;having the size and positioning of their dotted black pupils subtly modified, the&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/folded-hands">🙏 Folded Hands</a> being shown&nbsp;isometrically, the <a href="https://emojipedia.org/alien">👽 Alien</a> changed from grey to green once again, and the previously atypical width of the vendor&#39;s four-person family emoji designs&nbsp;being revised.

Additionally, a bug appears to have swapped the designs of the various&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/deaf-man">🧏&zwj;♂️ Deaf Man</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/deaf-woman">🧏&zwj;♀️ Deaf Woman</a> emojis.

Windows 11 23H2

Beginning its rollout on 2022-09-20, Window 11&#39;s 22H2 update introduced support for <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> emojis such as <a href="/melting-face/">🫠 Melting Face</a>, <a href="/saluting-face/">🫡 Saluting Face</a>, and <a href="/heart-hands/">🫶 Heart Hands</a>.

This update also revised a number of previous-released emoji designs.&nbsp;Notably, the colored heart emojis such as&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/red-heart/">❤️ Red Heart</a> were given additional details.

Additionally, each of the hand gesutre and people emojis without a skin tone modifier were given a revised base skin tone color.

Windows 11 22H2

Beginning its rollout on 2021-11-22, Window 11&#39;s November 2021 update redesigned all of Microsoft&#39;s emojis, officially launching the <a href="https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2021/11/22/express-yourself-with-new-emoji-now-available-in-windows-11/">2D incarnation</a> of the platform&#39;s Fluent&nbsp;emoji set. The&nbsp;Fluent&nbsp;redesign was <a href="https://medium.com/microsoft-design/emotionality-at-work-398182387adc">first&nbsp;previewed</a> ahead of <a href="https://worldemojiday.com/">World Emoji Day</a> 2021.

This update was the first to support <a href="/emoji-13.1/">Emoji 13.1</a>&nbsp;recommendations such as&nbsp;<a href="/heart-on-fire/">❤️&zwj;🔥 Heart on Fire</a>&nbsp;and <a href="/face-in-clouds/">😶&zwj;🌫️ Face in Clouds</a> on Windows.

Windows 11 November 2021 Update

Microsoft Windows 11&nbsp;launched&nbsp;on 2021-10-05, and was the first version of Windows update to support&nbsp;<a href="/emoji-12.1/">Emoji 12.1</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="/emoji-13.0/">Emoji 13.0</a>. Emojis in this release are displayed in the thick outlined&nbsp;Segoe Color Emoji&nbsp;style from Windows 10, instead of the <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/new-fluent-emoji-designs-from-microsoft/">Fluent designs</a> previewed ahead of <a href="https://worldemojiday.com/">World Emoji Day 2021</a>.

Support for <a href="/emoji-12.1/">Emoji 12.1</a>&nbsp;and <a href="/emoji-13.0/">Emoji 13.0</a>&nbsp;was initially made available via Windows 10 Insiders Builds <a href="https://twitter.com/Emojipedia/status/1337183890063187971">in December 2020</a>.

Grimacing Face

A yellow face with smiling eyes and a broad, open smile, showing upper teeth and tongue on some platforms. Often conveys general happiness and good-natured amusement.

Similar to <a href="/grinning-face/">😀 Grinning Face</a>&nbsp;but&nbsp;with taller, more excited eyes.&nbsp;

A yellow face with smiling eyes and full-toothed grin, as if saying Cheese!&nbsp;for the camera.&nbsp;Teeth may be smoothed-over or crosshatched. Often expresses a radiant, gratified happiness. Tone varies, including warm, silly, amused, or proud.

Grinning Face with Smiling Eyes

Has the same grin and eyes as&nbsp;<a href="/grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes/">😄 Grinning Face With Smiling Eyes</a>&nbsp;but with a single, blue bead of sweat, usually over its left eye. Intended to depict nerves or discomfort but commonly used to express a close call, as if saying Whew! and wiping sweat from the forehead.&nbsp;

Smiling Face with Open Mouth and Cold Sweat

A classic smiley, turned upside down. Implemented as a flipped version of&nbsp;<a href="/slightly-smiling-face/">🙂 Slightly Smiling Face</a>&nbsp;on most platforms.

Commonly used to convey&nbsp;irony, sarcasm, joking, or a sense of goofiness or silliness.&nbsp;Its intent can be&nbsp;similar to the bemused Oh well! of <a href="/person-shrugging/">🤷&nbsp;Person Shrugging</a> or the shruggie emoticon, &macr;\_(ツ)_/&macr;.

Microsoft&#39;s design <a href="/microsoft/windows-10-anniversary-update/upside-down-face/">previously featured</a> a full-toothed grin.

Upside-Down Face

A yellow face with a hand covering its mouth. Displays most often with&nbsp;smiling eyes and/or blushing cheeks, suggesting coy laughter or embarrassment, as if cheekily saying&nbsp;Oops! 

Prior to the release of <a href="/apple/ios-15.4/">iOS 15.4</a> in March 2022, Apple&#39;s design&nbsp;<a href="/apple/ios-11.1/face-with-hand-over-mouth/">featured</a> simple, open eyes, suggesting someone gasping Oh my! in serious surprise, shock, concern, or apology. This same update assigned Apple&#39;s original 🤭 design to <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&#39;s new&nbsp;<a href="/face-with-open-eyes-and-hand-over-mouth/">🫢 Face with Open Eyes and Hand Over Mouth</a> emoji.
