A yellow face screaming in fear, depicted by wide, white eyes, a long, open mouth, hands pressed on cheeks, and a pale&nbsp;blue forehead, as if it has lost its color. Its expression evokes Edvard Munch&rsquo;s iconic painting <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scream">The Scream</a>.

While intended to represent horror and fright, it commonly conveys such feelings as shock, awe, disbelief, and intense excitement, as a screaming fan.

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/face-screaming-in-fear/">previously featured</a> a <a href="/ghost/">ghost</a> flying from its mouth. <a href="/weary-cat/">🙀&nbsp;Weary Cat Face</a> bears a similar expression.

Face Screaming in Fear

A yellow face, usually shown with closed eyes and raised eyebrows, with saliva drooling from one corner of its mouth. Often used to show desire for a person (sexy, attractive) or object (e.g., delicious food). May also represent someone is tired or sleeping.

Not to be confused with&nbsp;<a href="/face-savoring-food/" title="😋 Face Savouring Delicious Food">😋 Face Savoring Food</a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href="/sleepy-face/" title="😪 Sleepy Face">😪 Sleepy Face</a>.

Samsung&#39;s design <a href="/samsung/experience-8.5/drooling-face/">previously featured</a> a startled facial expression.

Drooling Face

A yellow face with a frown and closed, downcast eyes, as if aching with sorrow or pain. May convey a variety of unhappy emotions, including disappointment, grief, stress, regret, and remorse.

Similar to <a href="/pensive-face/">😔&nbsp;Pensive Face</a>, but with a sadder, more hurt expression. Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/disappointed-face/">previously featured</a> an expression closer to <a href="/confused-face/">😕&nbsp;Confused Face</a>.

A&nbsp;thumbs-down gesture indicating disapproval.

Thumbs Down Sign

A yellow face with small,&nbsp;open eyes and a large, round mouth, slack&nbsp;with&nbsp;surprise or shock, as if saying Wow! or Oh my! May convey such feelings as awe&nbsp;or disbelief, often milder or more ironic in tone&nbsp;than <a href="/face-screaming-in-fear/">😱&nbsp;Face Screaming in&nbsp;Fear</a>.

Face with Open Mouth

A yellow face with X&rsquo;s&nbsp;for eyes and a round, open mouth. Often depicted with raised or furrowed eyebrows. Facebook&rsquo;s design features a purple forehead. Previously displayed with spiral eyes on <a href="/google/android-8.0/dizzy-face/">some</a> <a href="/microsoft/windows-10-may-2019-update/dizzy-face/">platforms</a>.

May convey a heightened or hyperbolic sense of such feelings as&nbsp;shock, surprise, disbelief, awe, and&nbsp;amazement, as if staggered to the point of disorientation (i.e., <a href="/dizzy/">dizzy</a>). May also represent <a href="/face-with-thermometer/">sickness</a>, <a href="/nauseated-face/">nausea</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/woozy-face/">intoxication</a>, and <a href="/skull/">death</a>, e.g., slang I&rsquo;m dead!

Not to be confused with <a href="/astonished-face/">😲&nbsp;Astonished Face</a>, which previously featured X-shaped eyes <a href="/apple/ios-8.3/astonished-face/">on</a> <a href="/twitter/twemoji-1.0/astonished-face/">several</a> <a href="/facebook/1.0/astonished-face/">platforms</a>, nor&nbsp;<a href="/face-with-spiral-eyes/">😵&zwj;💫 Face with Spiral Eyes</a>&nbsp;which consistently displays spiral eyes on all platforms.

Dizzy Face

A yellow face with scrunched, X-shaped eyes, furrowed eyebrows, and a broad, open frown, as if yawning in exhaustion or groaning in exasperation. Usually shown with upper teeth and sometimes tongue.

While intended to represent tiredness, it commonly conveys various degrees and tones of frustration and sadness as well excitement and affection, as if it just can&rsquo;t handle how great someone or something is.

Similar in appearance and meaning to <a href="/weary-face/">😩 Weary Face</a>, but with scrunched eyes. Not to be confused with <a href="/sleepy-face/">😪 Sleepy Face</a> or <a href="/sleeping-face/">😴 Sleeping Face</a>, which often convey actually being asleep.&nbsp;

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/tired-face/">previously featured</a> three, vertical, blue lines over its forehead, which can indicate fatigue in manga and anime. A <a href="/microsoft/windows-8.1/tired-face/">previous</a> Microsoft design was <a href="/yawning-face/">yawning</a>.

Tired Face

A yellow face with simple, open eyes and a closed zipper for a mouth. Meaning widely varies, but commonly conveys a secret or that someone will&nbsp;keep&nbsp;one (e.g., My lips are sealed). May also be used to tell someone to stop talking (e.g., Zip it! or I&rsquo;ll shut up now).

Google&#39;s design for <a href="/hushed-face/">😯 Hushed Face</a> <a href="/google/android-5.0/hushed-face/">previously featured</a> a zipper-mouth.

Zipper-Mouth Face

A yellow face with small, open eyes, raised eyebrows, and a small,&nbsp;open mouth, as if it has been hushed by concern or correction. Meaning widely varies, but its expression is commonly taken as surprise, embarrassment, or mild&nbsp;excitement.

Similar to <a href="/astonished-face/">😲&nbsp;Astonished Face</a>, which features larger eyes and mouth.&nbsp;Google <a href="/google/android-5.0/hushed-face/">previously interpreted</a> hushed as &quot;silenced,&quot;&nbsp;depicting&nbsp;the emoji with a <a href="/zipper-mouth-face/">zipper mouth</a> until <a href="/google/android-6.0.1/">Android 6.0.1</a>. An early&nbsp;Microsoft&nbsp;design <a href="/microsoft/windows-8.1/hushed-face/">featured</a> a face with closed eyes and a flat, closed mouth.

Hushed Face

A classic sad face. A yellow face with&nbsp;simple, open eyes and wide, steep frown. May convey such feelings as moderate concern or disappointment and affectionate sadness, as when missing a loved one. Its sentiment is usually more intense than <a href="/slightly-frowning-face/">🙁&nbsp;Slightly Frowning Face</a>, which has a smaller frown.

This smiley predates Unicode emoji support. In its Unicode name of White Frowning Face, white&nbsp;does not refer to skin tone or ethnicity, although&nbsp;Samsung&rsquo;s <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.0/frowning-face/">early designs</a>&nbsp;colored the face white.&nbsp;See the glossary for the&nbsp;term&nbsp;<a href="/glossary/#white" title="📖 Glossary">white</a>&nbsp;in Unicode character names.

White Frowning Face

A yellow face with simple, open eyes and a flat, closed mouth. Intended to depict a neutral sentiment but often used to convey mild irritation and concern or a deadpan sense of humor.

Neutral Face

An upset person, frowning with dismay. Gender is not specified,&nbsp;but generally shown&nbsp;as a woman.

Previously displayed as a man on <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.0/person-frowning/">Samsung</a> and <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/person-frowning/">Microsoft</a> platforms.

Person Frowning

A yellow face with open eyes, raised eyebrows, and an open mouth, as if gasping in shock or surprise. Often depicted showing its upper teeth.&nbsp;May convey a wide range of emotions, including awe, amazement, admiration, disbelief, excitement, or concern.

Similar to <a href="/hushed-face/">😯&nbsp;Hushed Face</a>, which features smaller eyes and mouth. Several earlier designs, <a href="/apple/ios-6.0/astonished-face/">including Apple&rsquo;s</a>, displayed X-shaped eyes, making the emoji resemble <a href="/dizzy-face/">😵&nbsp;Dizzy Face</a>. Google&rsquo;s design <a href="/google/android-7.0/astonished-face/">previously depicted</a> a wobbly expression, as if <a href="/woozy-face/">inebriated</a>.

Astonished Face

A yellow face with an open&nbsp;mouth, the top of its head exploding in the shape of a brain-like mushroom cloud. A visual form of the expression mind blown, it&nbsp;may represent such emotions as shock, awe, amazement, and disbelief.

Apple&rsquo;s design features the same expression as its&nbsp;<a href="/frowning-face-with-open-mouth/">😦 Frowning Face With Open Mouth</a>.

Shocked Face with Exploding Head

A cartoon cat variant of <a href="/weary-face/">😩 Weary Face</a>. Its expression more closely resembles <a href="/face-screaming-in-fear/">😱 Face Screaming in Fear</a>.&nbsp;Depicted as yellow on major platforms.

Weary Cat Face

A yellow face with a flat, neutral mouth and furrowed eyebrows, its left raised higher than its right. Conveys a wide variety of sentiments, including suspicion, skepticism, concern, consideration, disbelief, and disapproval.

Its expression <a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/rise-of-the-colbert-emoji/">has notably been likened</a> to the signature look of comedian <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Colbert">Stephen Colbert</a> as well as actor/wrestler <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwayne_Johnson">Dwayne &ldquo;The Rock&rdquo; Johnson</a>.

Face with One Eyebrow Raised

A yellow face with simple, open eyes and a slight frown. Often conveys a mild degree of concern, disappointment, or sadness, but usually&nbsp;less intensely&nbsp;than <a href="/frowning-face/">☹️&nbsp;Frowning Face</a>.

<a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/slightly-frowning-face/">Samsung</a> and <a href="/facebook/2.0/slightly-frowning-face/">Facebook</a> previously included eyebrows.

Slightly Frowning Face

A yellow face with small, open eyes, open frown, and raised eyebrows. Samsung&rsquo;s design shows upper teeth and tongue. Meaning widely varies, but may convey alarm, confusion, or sadness, as if gasping in shock or concern.

Bears the same eyes and mouth as <a href="/frowning-face-with-open-mouth/">😦&nbsp;Frowning Face With Open Mouth</a> on most platforms, but its eyebrows give it a more surprised expression.

Anguished Face

A face with small, open eyes, open frown, raised eyebrows, and a pale blue forehead, as if experiencing a <a href="/cold-face/">cold</a> flash.&nbsp;Samsung&rsquo;s design shows upper teeth and tongue.

While intended to represent fear (less intense than <a href="/face-screaming-in-fear/">😱&nbsp;Face Screaming in Fear</a>), it also conveys a wide variety of emotions, including feeling amazed, shocked, sad, upset, and <a href="/cold-face/">cold</a>. Bears the same expression as <a href="/anguished-face/">😧&nbsp;Anguished Face</a> on most platforms.

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0">2014</a>, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms.
