Octagonal Sign

A wide road shown from a first person perspective. Apple&#39;s artwork displays a road sign to Curpertino.

Motorway

A set of red, orange (amber) and green traffic lights, used at intersections. Less common than the <a title="🚦 Vertical Traffic Light" href="/vertical-traffic-light/">vertical traffic light</a>.
Similar in appearance to the <a href="https://www.apple.com/anzsea/v/osx/c/images/design/controls_large.png">traffic light controls</a> in the upper-left of every OS X windows.

Horizontal Traffic Light

A set of red, orange (amber) and green traffic lights, used at intersections. More common than the <a title="🚥 Horizontal Traffic Light" href="/horizontal-traffic-light/">horizontal traffic light</a>.

Vertical Traffic Light

A sign used to indicate roadwork or <a href="/construction-worker/" title="👷 Construction Worker">construction</a>. Generally shown as yellow and black diagonal stripes, and often used to physically block access to a road or area. May be used to imply a website or project&nbsp;in progress or under construction.

Construction Sign

A triangle with an <a href="/exclamation-mark/" title="❗ Heavy Exclamation Mark Symbol">exclamation mark</a> inside, used as a warning or alert.

This emoji is used prominently within social media platform BeReal&#39;s core time-sensitive &quot;⚠️ Time to BeReal&nbsp;⚠️&quot; push notification. This notification is shown&nbsp;when being prompted to&nbsp;share a photo of themselves and their immediate surroundings, with this notification&nbsp;given within a&nbsp;randomly selected two-minute window every day.&nbsp;

Warning Sign

A yellow and green shield symbol, called a&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoshinsha_mark">Shoshinsha Mark</a>. Must be displayed by drivers in Japan for one year after they receive their drivers licence.

Similar to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L-plate">L-Plates</a>&nbsp;used to identify learner drivers in other countries.

Japanese Symbol for Beginner

A car&nbsp;shown from the side, facing right-to-left. Appears as a red car on almost all platforms (which <a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RedOnesGoFaster">goes faster</a>), though earlier Google designs displayed the vehicle as either <a href="/google/android-11.0/automobile/">silver</a> or <a href="/google/android-7.0/automobile/">blue</a>.

Facebook&#39;s first design for this emoji was also <a href="/facebook/1.0/automobile/">blue</a>.

Automobile

A car&nbsp;being shown from the front. The windscreen and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hood_(vehicle)">hood</a> (bonnet in British English) of the car can be seen&nbsp;facing forward.

This car shows in red or blue on most platforms. It was <a href="/google/android-11.0/oncoming-automobile/">previously</a> silver on Android.

Oncoming Automobile

A crossing sign for children, usually positioned near schools or other areas that drivers should be cautious of young children in the area.

Children Crossing

A construction worker wearing a hard-hat (safety helmet). Has a high visibility vest or <a href="/hammer/" title="🔨 Hammer">hammer</a> in some variations.

Some platforms display a green cross on the <a href="/rescue-workers-helmet/" title="⛑ Helmet With White Cross">helmet</a> which is used in Japan as a safety reminder in <a href="/construction/" title="🚧 Construction Sign">construction</a> zones. It is also commonly seen on the <a href="http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/Met">Met</a>&nbsp;helmet in the game&nbsp;Mega Man.

The Unicode Consortium accepted the following emoji 72 emojis&nbsp;for Unicode 9.0. This update&nbsp;was released&nbsp;on June 21, 2016. Most vendors added support for this update within the 2016 calendar year.&nbsp;<a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/unicode-9-0-released-with-72-new-emojis/">Sample images and more about Unicode 9.0</a>.

<a href="/emoji-4.0/">Emoji 4.0</a> was published in late 2016, which added additional emoji professions.

<h2>New in Unicode 9</h2>

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0">2014</a>, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms. Samsung Emoji List — Emojis for Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note [Updated 2023]

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 28 March 2024, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.1 redesigns most emojis within the&nbsp;<a href="/travel-places">🚀 Travel &amp; Places</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/objects">💡 Objects</a> categories while also revising the outline and shading of hundreds of additional emojis&#39; designs.

One UI 6.1

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 30&nbsp;October 2023, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.0&nbsp;featured a completely new design style for the majority of the vendor&#39;s emojis.

All smiley, food, and animal emoji designs have been revised in this update, as have the majority of the people emojis.

This is the most significant revision of the vendor&#39;s emoji set since&nbsp;February 2018&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/samsung/experience-9.0">Experience 9.0</a> update, which introduced a significant number of design revisions that were consistent with those used on other platforms.

This update also introduced support for the 2023 <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a> recommendation list.

One UI 6.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from October 2022, Samsung&#39;s One UI 5.0 provided support for both&nbsp;2021&#39;s <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> and 2022&#39;s <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.0/">Emoji 15.0</a>&nbsp;recommendations.

Prior to the release of One UI 5.0, many Samsung users may have seen support for <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;emojis provided via <a href="/google/">Google&#39;s emoji design set</a>. This was due to Google&#39;s expansion of&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>&nbsp;in 2021.

A select number of users also reported seeing <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;designs in Samsung&#39;s emoji font when updating to One UI 4.1.1 in September 2022.

One UI 5.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from&nbsp;mid-January 2022, this small emoji updated changed the design of Samsung&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="/sparkles/">✨ Sparkles</a> emoji to be more consistent&nbsp;with those of other emoji vendors.

Additional devices received this emoji update alongside Samsung&#39;s&nbsp;One UI 4.1 update, which was made widely available in March 2022 after initially debuting with the Galaxy S22 series of devices a month earlier.

One UI 4.0 January 2022

Beginning its rollout on&nbsp;2021-11-15 for Samsung&#39;s Galaxy S21 series of mobile devices,&nbsp;Samsung One UI 4.0&nbsp;added support for <a href="/emoji-13.1/">Emoji 13.1</a>.

One UI 4.0

Beginning its rollout in late July 2021 to select Samsung&rsquo;s Galaxy Z devices, One UI 3.1.1 updated a small number of existing emoji designs.

Select devices running Samsung One UI 3.1 were also given this emoji update&nbsp;via a firmware update in August 2021.

One UI 3.1.1

Released alongside the Galaxy Note 20 on&nbsp;2020-08-21, Samsung One UI 2.5 added support for <a href="/emoji-13.0/">Emoji 13.0</a>. One UI 2.5

Samsung One UI 2.0&nbsp;began rolling out to users in February 2020.&nbsp;The first major devices to launch with this release were the&nbsp;Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy Z Flip.

This update provides support to the 136 gender-neutral person&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/emoji-zwj-sequences-three-letters-many-possibilities">ZWJ sequences </a>recommended in <a href="/emoji-12.1/">Emoji 12.1</a>. However, the previously-released&nbsp;<a href="/woman/">👩 Woman&nbsp;</a>variant designs are displayed&nbsp;instead of a new gender-neutral design.

The 30 people holding hands emojis recommended&nbsp;in <a href="/emoji-12.1/">Emoji 12.1</a>&nbsp;are absent from this update.

One UI 2.1

Samsung One UI 2.0&nbsp;began rolling out to users in January 2020.

This update corrected a <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/samsungs-emoji-adventures/">long-standing design oddity</a> in the Samsung emoji set, where the design for <a href="/regional-indicator-symbol-letter-u/">🇺 Regional Indicator Symbol Letter U</a>&nbsp;displayed the letter V and <a href="/regional-indicator-symbol-letter-v/">🇻 Regional Indicator Symbol Letter V</a>&nbsp;displayed the letter U.

One UI 2.0

Samsung One UI 1.5 began rolling out to users in August 2019.&nbsp;The first major device&nbsp;to launch with this release was the Samsung&nbsp;Galaxy Note 10.

One UI 1.5

Samsung One UI 1.0 (formerly known as Samsung Experience 10.0) began rolling out to users in&nbsp;December&nbsp;2018. The first major devices to launch with this release were the Samsung Galaxy S10 series, announced on February 20, 2019.
