This emoji is occassionally used in the place of the word &#39;white&#39;&nbsp;as in, a <a href="/light-skin-tone/">white skin tone</a>. This form of <a href="https://www.wired.com/story/voldemorting-ultimate-seo-diss-resident-linguist/">Voldemorting</a>&nbsp;is potentially due to the similarity of the words &#39;white&#39; and &#39;wheat&#39;, and used&nbsp;<a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/kp0boe/what_is_the_deal_with_using_the_grain_emoji/">in online discussions</a>&nbsp;where it is&nbsp;undesirable to have the actual word written out.

Ear of Rice

A yellow face with big glasses, a large nose, thick eyebrows, and a mustache. Used to represent someone in disguise.

The features of this particular disguised face are taken from the &ldquo;Groucho Mask&rdquo; or &ldquo;Groucho Glasses,&rdquo; designed in the likeness of the caricature played by Julius Henry Marx in the Marx Brothers&#39; films. These comedic films were popular in the 1930s and &lsquo;40s, and the mask has been a mainstay of joke shops since <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2000/06/18/books/there-ain-t-no-sanity-claus.html">as early as the 1940s</a>.

The Unicode Consortium accepted the following emoji 72 emojis&nbsp;for Unicode 9.0. This update&nbsp;was released&nbsp;on June 21, 2016. <a href="/emoji-4.0/">Emoji 4.0</a> was published in late 2016, which added additional emoji professions.

<h2>New in Unicode 9</h2>

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0">2014</a>, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms.
