Appearance varies across platforms, but generally depicted at&nbsp;a 45&deg; angle as a thin, white or red strip with a decorative tie and design, such as flower or <a href="/star/">star</a>.

May be used for various content concerning reading, labeling, or tagging.

WhatsApp&rsquo;s bookmark is purple. Twitter&rsquo;s design shows a red bookmark in a closed book, similar to previous designs from <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/bookmark/">Microsoft</a>. <a href="/twitter/twemoji-1.0/bookmark/">Twitter</a> and <a href="/google/android-7.0/bookmark/">Google&rsquo;s</a> designs previously featured a blue bookmark.

Several platforms, including Google, Microsoft, and Samsung, depict only a nib, sometimes ringed with gold. Other platforms, including Apple and Twitter, feature the same designs as their <a href="/fountain-pen/">🖋️&nbsp;Fountain Pen</a>, but with their tips angled to the lower right.

Black Nib

A black fountain pen with a silver <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nib_(pen)">nib</a>, as used for signing important documents. Often depicted with gold hardware. Lower Left Fountain Pen

Lower Left Ballpoint Pen

A set of tabbed dividers or file guides, as used to organize a <a href="/card-index/">card index</a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href="/card-file-box/">file box</a>. Depicted with three or more multicolored tabs on manila paper.

Commonly used for various content concerning paper or computer files, organization, and various types of data, information, and professional or academic work.

Card Index Dividers

Released in&nbsp;October&nbsp;2010, Unicode 6.0 was the first version of the <a href="/the-unicode-consortium">Unicode Standard</a> to support emoji.

Some characters in <a href="/unicode-5.2/">prior</a>&nbsp;versions of Unicode were retroactively updated to provide&nbsp;an emoji presentation. This release was the first to introduce new characters for the sole purpose of compatability with emojis being used in Japan.

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0">2014</a>, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms.
