A bald eagle, the majestic bird of prey with brown feathers and distinctive white head. Generally depicted facing left, with its wings outspread and talons out, as if swooping down to seize prey.

Commonly associated with the <a href="/flag-united-states/">United States</a>, whose national emblem is the bald eagle. May be used for other eagles and birds of prey (e.g., hawks).

Google&rsquo;s eagle used to have its wings tucked in, as if perched on a branch. Twitter&rsquo;s design shows only the bust of an eagle. Apple&rsquo;s <a href="/newspaper/">📰 Newspaper</a> features its eagle on its masthead.

Eagle

A flame, as produced when something is on fire. Depicted as a red, orange, and yellow flickering flame.

Commonly used for various metaphorical expressions related to fire, including the slang hot (&ldquo;attractive&rdquo;) and <a href="https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/its-lit/">lit</a> (&ldquo;excellent&rdquo;).

Fire

Electric Torch

A generic, high-rise office building. Generally found in cities, and most active during business hours.

The flag for the&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States">United States</a>&nbsp;of America (USA), which may show as the letters&nbsp;US&nbsp;on some platforms.

A large ship, used for transport of people or cargo across the ocean. May be a cruise ship, commonly found around <a href="/palm-tree/" title="🌴 Palm Tree">tropical</a> locations.

The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Tower">Tokyo Tower</a> is the second-tallest building in Japan, located in&nbsp;Minato, Tokyo.

Built in 1957, the design of the Tokyo Tower &nbsp;was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, <a href="/flag-france/" title="🇫🇷 Flag For France">France</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;may be confused for it due to the small size of the emoji.

Tokyo Tower

A classic camera, as an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-lens_reflex_camera">SLR</a>&nbsp;used to take pictures before <a href="/mobile-phone/">camera phones</a>. Generally depicted with a black and silver casing with lens and operating controls.

Commonly used for various content concerning photography as well as an icon for a picture, as before an upload, link, or credit.

A classic red apple, shown with a stem and single, green leaf on major platforms. Commonly associated with&nbsp;<a href="/woman-health-worker/">doctors</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/man-teacher/">teachers</a>, and&nbsp;<a href="/statue-of-liberty/">New York</a>.

The cooked sausage of a hot dog in a sliced&nbsp;<a href="/bread/">bun&nbsp;</a>and drizzled with yellow mustard, as eaten at a&nbsp;<a href="/baseball/" title="⚾️ Baseball">baseball&nbsp;</a>game.&nbsp;

A stemmed glass with a cone-shaped bowl, used for serving cocktails. Depicted as a&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martini_(cocktail)">martini</a>&nbsp;garnished with an olive. Might be gin or vodka, shaken or stirred. See also&nbsp;<a href="/tropical-drink/">Tropical Drink</a>.

Cocktail Glass

The brown bread of a bagel, shown sliced in two halves. Some platforms depict seeds, as sesame or poppy, and a schmear of cream cheese, with the bagel assembled as a sandwich. May resemble the <a href="/doughnut/">Doughnut</a> at small sizes.

After complaints, <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/apple-fixes-bagel-emoji/">Apple updated the bagel emoji design</a> during the iOS 12.1 beta cycle.

Bagel

Cash money! A banded stack of U.S. dollar banknotes, the paper currency of the <a href="/flag-united-states/">United States of America</a>. Green hue and detail vary across platforms, but shown with the <a href="/heavy-dollar-sign/">dollar sign</a>, $. Commonly used for various content concerning wealth and money, not restricted to the U.S.

Apple&rsquo;s design depicts $1 bills with Cupertino and <a href="https://www.mactrast.com/2017/05/who-exactly-is-john-appleseed/">John Appleseed</a> in the treasury signature sections. WhatsApp&rsquo;s design depicts $10 bills, Facebook&rsquo;s displays a <a href="/statue-of-liberty/">Statue of Liberty</a> torch.

Banknote with Dollar Sign

A balance scale, as historically used to measure weight. A symbol of justice, as held by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Justice#Scales">Lady Justice</a>, and of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libra_(astrology)">zodiac sign</a> of <a href="/libra/">Libra</a>, the Scales. Depicted as two silver or gold pans suspended from a beam and supported on a base.

Commonly used for various content concerning law and justice as well as various senses of balance and weight.

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/balance-scale/">previously featured</a> a stylized, white balance scale on a green square, as an icon or symbol of legal matters or institutions.

A globe, showing the continents of North and South America in green against blue ocean.

May be used to represent various content concerning the North and South American regions as well Atlantic and Pacific regions. May also be used to represent Earth and international affairs more generally.

A symbol showing two or three people standing in a square with up and down arrows above them. Most platforms feature a simple blue and white design.

Released in&nbsp;October&nbsp;2010, Unicode 6.0 was the first version of the Unicode Standard to support emoji.

Some characters in <a href="/unicode-5.2/">prior</a>&nbsp;versions of Unicode were retroactively updated to provide&nbsp;an emoji presentation. This release was the first to introduce new characters for the sole purpose of compatability with emojis being used in Japan.

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0">2014</a>, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms.
