Positioned at a 45&deg; angle, its tip at the lower left. Commonly used for various content concerning drawing, colors, arts and crafts, and schooling.

WhatsApp&rsquo;s crayon is green while Facebook&rsquo;s is orange.

Lower Left Crayon

Also used between words to show that a lesson is being learned and to indicate someone is taking notes. For example, ✍️look✍️both✍️ways✍️before✍️you✍️cross✍️the✍️street. This use&nbsp;was popularized in <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/what-happens-in-the-tiktok-comments/">TikTok comments</a>. It uses the established practice of placing emojis between words for emphasis. Possibly influenced by the emphatic use of <a href="/clapping-hands/">👏 Clapping Hands</a>, which reflects speech-gesture pairings in Black English in the United States.

A dark-colored, hardcover&nbsp;notebook, as used to write or take notes in school. Commonly used for various content concerning writing and schooling.

The SoftBank emoji designs&nbsp;heavily influenced&nbsp;<a href="/apple/iphone-os-2.2/">Apple&#39;s original emoji font</a>&nbsp;which was&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/apples-emoji-evolution-1997-2018/">designed to be compatible with this set</a>&nbsp;when launching in Japan, due&nbsp;to iPhone being a SoftBank-exclusive phone when first released.

A minor update to this set removed regional indicators in 2016, but otherwise delivered no new changes.

An increased resolution and a number of design changes.
