Shield

A yellow and green shield symbol, called a&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoshinsha_mark">Shoshinsha Mark</a>. Must be displayed by drivers in Japan for one year after they receive their drivers licence.

Similar to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L-plate">L-Plates</a>&nbsp;used to identify learner drivers in other countries.

Japanese Symbol for Beginner

A pointed knife with a steel blade, as used for thrusting in close combat. Generally depicted as double-edged with a black, brown or gold&nbsp;cross-shaped hilt and positioned at 45&deg; angle, often with its tip at the lower left.

May represent knives and other bladed weapons (cf. <a href="/crossed-swords/">⚔️&nbsp;Crossed Swords</a>) as well as various senses of cutting and stabbing. Often applied to medieval or fantasy content.

Google&rsquo;s design&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-9.0/dagger/">previously</a> featured&nbsp;an icy-blue blade and <a href="/sparkles/">sparkles</a>, suggests a dagger <a href="/elf/">elves</a> may wield in fantasy.

Dagger Knife

Two swords with steel blades in an X shape, as crossed for combat between two knights or warriors. Generally depicted as straight, double-edged blades with brown or black, cross-shaped hilts, points directed up.&nbsp;Commonly used as a symbol for battle, fighting, or a contest, as in sports.

Sometimes shown with golden handles. Several vendors implement the same design as for their <a href="/dagger/">🗡️&nbsp;Dagger</a>.&nbsp;Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/crossed-swords/">previously featured</a> stylized, white swords on a green square, as a sign or icon of war.

Crossed Swords

A traditional Japanese Castle (城, shiro or jō), usually made from stone and wood.

European Castle

May be used for content concerning cooking and food preparation, but often represents various senses of cutting and stabbing.&nbsp;Its Unicode name, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_kitchen_knife">Hocho</a>, means &ldquo;kitchen knife&rdquo; in Japanese and refers to a variety of knives used in <a href="/flag-japan/">Japan</a>.

Hocho

Creatures with pointed ears and human-like faces. <a href="/woman-elf/">Female</a> and <a href="/man-elf/">male</a> elves are available.

Male royalty, intended as a gender pair for the <a href="/princess/" title="👸 Princess">princess emoji</a>. Shown as a <a href="/man/" title="👨 Man">man</a> with a crown.

Not a reference to the musician Prince, however the <a href="/man-singer/">man singer emoji on WhatsApp</a> does show a character that bears a heavy resemblance to this artist.

Prince

A triangle or set square, as used by engineers or architects to draw <a href="/straight-ruler/">straight lines</a> at angles. Variously depicted as a metal, wood, or plastic right triangle with length markings, its hypotenuse to the right.

Commonly applied to a range of disciplines, including art, design, building, architecture, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). May also represent various concepts of angles and measurement.

Triangular Ruler

A diamond-shaped kite with a tail. This emoji appears in various colors across platforms.

Kite

A locked (closed) <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padlock">padlock</a>, as used to secure a latch or <a href="/chains/">chain</a>, or as an icon for a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_Layer_Security">secure internet connection</a>, private account, or locked device. Generally depicted with a gold base and silver shackle. WhatsApp&rsquo;s design is silver.

Commonly used for content concerning safety, security, privacy, and protection as well as various senses of lock, e.g., locked in/down.

This emoji <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/emojipedia-now-with-https/">does not display in page titles</a>&nbsp;on&nbsp;Apple&rsquo;s Safari web browser, presumably to prevent less reputable sites from pretending to be secure (encrypted using <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTPS">HTTPS</a>).

Lock

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon">dragon</a>, a mythical creature resembling a giant reptile found in the folklore of many cultures. Depicted as a green, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_dragon">Chinese-styled dragon</a> in full profile facing left. Generally shown with a curling, snake-like body, clawed feet, yellowish scales on its back, horn-like structures on its head, and whisker-like tendrils by its nostrils.

The Unicode Consortium approved the following characters as part of <a href="http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode7.0.0/">Unicode 7.0</a>, released on June 16, 2014.&nbsp;Support for these emoji characters rely on updates from platform vendors such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

Initially, 250&nbsp;new characters in Unicode 7.0 were approved for emoji presentation, however this was later reduced to 103 Standard Additions which are listed below. The other characters remain part of Unicode, but are not recommended&nbsp;to be included as emojis.

The exception to this was the <a href="/left-speech-bubble/" title="🗨 Left Speech Bubble">Left Speech Bubble</a>, and as such wasn&#39;t initially specified on other platforms as an emoji. A later-accepted&nbsp;<a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/diverse-spy-proposal/">proposal</a>&nbsp;updated this.

Sony includes its own custom emoji set for users of the Playstation 5 (PS5) and Playstation 4 (PS4) video game consoles. <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/how-emojis-work-on-sony-ps5/">Learn more about Playstation&#39;s emoji support.</a>

Both the PS5 and PS4 support <a href="/emoji-13.1/">Emoji 13.1</a> within the Messages function. There is not presently any emoji support within either console&rsquo;s internet browser.

When using the Messages function on the PS5 console, you can access the emoji keyboard by pressing in L3 button (left stick) when direct messaging another user. The PS4, however, does not allow users to access the emoji keyboard directly.

The Playstation App on mobile devices, which includes access to the Messages function, allows for the placement of emojis into messages through the&nbsp;device&rsquo;s native emoji keyboard.

Sony Playstation Emoji Support

This update, released in early 2021, provided support for <a href="/emoji-13.1/">Emoji 13.1</a> emojis such as <a href="/face-in-clouds/">😶&zwj;🌫️ Face in Clouds</a>, <a href="/face-with-spiral-eyes/">😵&zwj;💫 Face with Spiral Eyes</a>, and <a href="/heart-on-fire/">❤️&zwj;🔥 Heart on Fire</a>&nbsp;within the Sony Playstation messaging feature for PS4 and PS5 consoles.
