A gesture showing the index finger and&nbsp;thumb touching&nbsp;to make an open circle. Represents &ldquo;I&rsquo;m okay&rdquo; or &ldquo;yes, that&rsquo;s correct / good&rdquo;.

In American Sign Language (ASL), the number nine is represented with this gesture. The same hand sign can be seen as offensive in some cultures, including in parts of Europe, the Middle East, and South America.

This can also be used as&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/no-the-ok-hand-is-not-a-symbol-of-white-power/">a&nbsp;symbol of White Supremacy</a>, depending on context.

OK Hand Sign

Used as an alternative to a <a title="✔ Heavy Check Mark" href="/check-mark/">check</a> (tick) in Japan for a something that is correct. The opposite of an X (<a title="❌ Cross Mark" href="/cross-mark/">cross mark</a>) for something wrong.

A person tipping their hand by their shoulder as if they&rsquo;re carrying a tray of drinks or flipping their hair. Originally called Information Desk Person.

This emoji is commonly used to express sassiness or sarcasm.

While no gender is specified, <a href="/apple/ios-4.0/person-tipping-hand/">many</a> <a href="/twitter/twemoji-1.0/person-tipping-hand/">early</a> <a href="/google/android-4.4/person-tipping-hand/">designs</a>&nbsp;displayed this emoji as a woman. Google&rsquo;s 2014 design shows <a href="/google/android-5.0/person-tipping-hand/">a blob wearing white gloves and a pillbox hat</a>. Microsoft&rsquo;s 2015 design shows <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/person-tipping-hand/">a woman doing this gesture while winking</a>, a facial expression that further reinforces the sassy and sarcastic uses of this emoji.

Information Desk Person

A person shrugging their shoulders to indicate a lack of knowledge about a particular topic, or a lack of care about the result of a situation.&nbsp;&macr;\_(ツ)_/&macr;

Displays as raised shoulders, sometimes in conjunction with raised arms and flat hands. The shrug gesture in text (emoticon / kaomoji) form is known as a <a href="https://kaomojipedia.org/shruggie/">shruggie</a> and typed as: &macr;\_(ツ)_/&macr;

The Unicode character&nbsp;Shrug&nbsp;(&quot;Person Shrugging&quot;)&nbsp;does not specify a gender, though it was previously shown as a woman on most platforms. See also&nbsp;<a href="/woman-shrugging/">Woman Shrugging</a> or&nbsp;<a href="/man-shrugging/">Man Shrugging</a>.

A&nbsp;thumbs-up gesture indicating approval.

In certain contexts, the use of the Thumbs Up emoji can be construed as being passive aggressive or sarcastic. Despite this possible use, it&nbsp;remains a popular means of quickly and earnestly expressing approval.

Thumbs Up Sign

A person with arms crossed forming an &lsquo;X&rsquo; to indicate &lsquo;no&rsquo; or &lsquo;no good&rsquo;. This motion is used on the TV game show <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deal_or_No_Deal_(U.S._game_show)">Deal or No Deal</a> to indicate &lsquo;No Deal&rsquo;.

A <a href="/check-mark/" title="✔️ Heavy Check Mark">check mark</a> that displays with a white outlined appearance. Shows&nbsp;on most platforms with a bright green rounded rectangle or circle surrounding it.

Android <a href="/google/android-4.4/check-mark-button/" title="✅ White Heavy Check Mark on Google Android 4.4">previously</a> displayed this as an outlined blue check mark / blue tick.

This emoji is not supported in Twitter / X names, possibly in an attempt to minimize confusion with a verified checkmark.
