Used broadly to represent writing.

Also used between words to show that a lesson is being learned and to indicate someone is taking notes. For example, ✍️look✍️both✍️ways✍️before✍️you✍️cross✍️the✍️street. This use&nbsp;was popularized in <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/what-happens-in-the-tiktok-comments/">TikTok comments</a>. It uses the established practice of placing emojis between words for emphasis. Possibly influenced by the emphatic use of <a href="/zh/%E9%BC%93%E6%8E%8C/">👏 Clapping Hands</a>, which reflects speech-gesture pairings in Black English in the United States.

Commonly used for various content concerning sewing, knitting, arts and crafts, clothing and fashion, and metaphorical threads (e.g., a discussion thread online).

WhatsApp&nbsp;and Microsoft&#39;s&nbsp;designs includes a needle.

A pair of scissors, as used to cut paper or <a href="/zh/%E7%90%86%E5%8F%91/">hair</a>. Generally shown open, blades down, with red handles. Commonly used for content concerning haircuts, fashion design, arts and crafts, and various senses of cutting.

The Unicode Consortium approved the following characters as part of <a href="http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode7.0.0/">Unicode 7.0</a>, released on June 16, 2014.&nbsp;Support for these emoji characters rely on updates from platform vendors such as Apple, Google and Microsoft.

Initially, 250&nbsp;new characters in Unicode 7.0 were approved for emoji presentation, however this was later reduced to 103 Standard Additions which are listed below. The other characters remain part of Unicode, but are not recommended&nbsp;to be included as emojis.

The exception to this was the <a href="/zh/%E6%9C%9D%E5%B7%A6%E7%9A%84%E8%AF%9D%E8%AF%AD%E6%B0%94%E6%B3%A1/" title="🗨 Left Speech Bubble">Left Speech Bubble</a>, and as such wasn&#39;t initially specified on other platforms as an emoji. A later-accepted&nbsp;<a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/diverse-spy-proposal/">proposal</a> updated this.

Google emoji images are used on most Android devices, Gmail Web Interface, Google Meet, and ChromeOS. These are provided as part of the&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/googlei18n/noto-emoji">Noto Emoji</a> project. These images are also used for&nbsp;<a href="/zh/slack/">Slack</a> on non-Apple platforms including Windows, Linux, and Android.

Gboard also includes an emoji mashup feature known as&nbsp;Emoji Kitchen which allows two emojis to be combined into a sticker. Thousands of combinations are available, using Gboard for Android and Google search.

The Google Noto Color Emoji set is used as the default emoji set on mobile devices manufactured by the likes of&nbsp;Xiaomi,&nbsp;Oppo,&nbsp;Huawei, Sony,&nbsp;and of course Google.

There are also two additional Noto Emoji variants: the&nbsp;minimalist <a href="/zh/noto-emoji/">Noto Emoji font</a>, and an <a href="/zh/animated-noto-color-emoji/">animated subset of Noto Color Emoji</a> designs used by the Messages by Google mobile app.

Note:&nbsp;<a href="/zh/samsung/">Samsung</a>&nbsp;devices use distinct&nbsp;emoji images. <a href="/zh/whatsapp/">WhatsApp</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/zh/facebook/">Facebook</a>&nbsp;and <a href="/zh/twitter/">Twitter</a> use their own emoji images on Android, while&nbsp;Signal and Telegram for Android&nbsp;use&nbsp;<a href="/zh/apple/">Apple</a> emoji images.
