A star with eight points, that is commonly shown in orange, and for some reason, with only four points.

Eight Pointed Black Star

Used in a similar manner to a regular * asterisk&nbsp;character but tends to be shown in a similar vertical alignment to a &bull;&nbsp;bullet point.&nbsp;The eight spoked asterisk&nbsp;has both a ✳︎&nbsp;text and ✳️&nbsp;emoji presentation available on most&nbsp;platforms.

Eight Spoked Asterisk

A cartoon-styled representation of <a href="/dizzy-face/">dizziness</a>. Generally depicted as one or more yellow stars swirling in a yellow or blue circle.

Resembles <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lexicon_of_Comicana">squeans</a>, stylized stars and circles over the heads of characters in comics and animation to show they are dizzy, <a href="/woozy-face/">disoriented</a>, intoxicated, or <a href="/nauseated-face/">sick</a>.

Commonly used for emphasis and flair or to indicate various positive sentiments. Like <a href="/shooting-star/">🌠 Shooting Star</a>, sometimes used as a visual reference to NBC&rsquo;s <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_More_You_Know">More You Know</a> public service announcement, popular in the 1990s and featuring a&nbsp;shooting star logo.

Not to be confused with <a href="/star/">⭐ Star</a>, <a href="/glowing-star/">🌟 Glowing Star</a>, and <a href="/sparkles/">✨ Sparkles</a>, though their applications may overlap.

Facebook&rsquo;s design features two stars spinning along two intersecting purple circles, though it <a href="/facebook/2.0/dizzy/">previously</a> only featured one&nbsp;yellow ring. <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/dizzy/">Samsung&rsquo;s</a> design previously displayed several yellow circles and stars.

Dizzy Symbol

Often used as a decorative bullet-point, the sparkle has both a ❇︎ text and ❇️ emoji presentation available on most&nbsp;platforms.

Like with the&nbsp;<a href="/sparkles">✨ Sparkles</a>&nbsp;emoji,&nbsp;an icon similar to the four-point star design used to represent this emoji by several vendors (e.g. Apple, Microsoft) is often used within tech platforms to represent a feature that utilizes&nbsp;artificial intelligence.

Sparkle

A symbol often used in relation to the religion&nbsp;of&nbsp;Judaism. Not to be confused with the&nbsp;<a href="/dotted-six-pointed-star/" title="🔯 Six Pointed Star With Middle Dot">Six Pointed Star With Middle Dot emoji</a>.

A star with six points, and a dot in the center. Similar to the <a href="/star-of-david/" title="✡ Star of David">Star of David emoji</a>.

Unicode 1.1 were pre-dated emoji inclusion in Unicode by 17 years, and included many characters primarily sourced from the Zapf Dingbats font.

The following characters were added to Unicode in 1993 and many were given emoji presentation status in the years 2010-2015.

An emoji set from au by KDDI; a Japanese mobile phone carrier. Using black and white emoji&nbsp;characters&nbsp;<a href="/au-kddi/type-a-2/">from 1999</a>, this set <a href="/au-kddi/type-d-1/">gained animation in the early 2000s</a>&nbsp;before moving to static, <a href="/au-kddi/type-d-3/">high resolution designs</a>.

In 2012, au&nbsp;replaced its custom designs with <a href="/au-kddi/type-f/">a new set</a> heavily inspired by, and designed to be compatible with, emojis from NTT Docomo.

Japanese mobile manufacturer with its own early emoji designs. Discontinued in 2013, replaced by Noto Color Emoji.

First available in May 2012, this emoji set is the first from au by KDDI to unify designs to largely mimic the set from NTT Docomo,&nbsp;providing&nbsp;greater cross-platform consistency. This was the first and only emoji set from au to move away from <a href="/au-kddi/type-d-3/">realistic designs</a> to more abstract symbols.

Shigetaka Kurita, the creator of the first Docomo designs, is <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2013/3/4/3966140/how-emoji-conquered-the-world">reported to have assisted with this effort</a>.

Type F

A higher resolution version of au&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="/au-kddi/type-d-1/">Type D-2</a>&nbsp;emoji set, but without animation. This emoji set was the last revision from au which featured designs unique to the company. Available as early as 2003, this set was in common use from 2005&mdash;2012 on au devices.

The <a href="/au-kddi/type-f/">following release</a> unified designs to more closely match those from NTT Docomo.

Type D-3

A higher resolution version of au&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="/au-kddi/type-d-1/">Type D-1</a>&nbsp;emoji set available on higher end devices at the time. Replaced by <a href="/au-kddi/type-d-3/">Type D-3</a>, which uses the same designs but without animation, and at a higher resolution.

Type D-2

A complete redesign which followed <a href="/au-kddi/type-c-2/">Type C-2</a> from au. Animated, relatively low resolution pixel art. <a href="/au-kddi/type-d-2/">Type D-2</a>&nbsp;features the same range and designs, at a higher resolution. First available from August 2001, but in common use in 2003. Used on older devices than the Type D-2 set.

Some changes from the previous release <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20031010032355/http://au.kddi.com:80/email/au_dakara/emoji/">were noted on the KDDI website</a>.

Type D-1

Type C-2 redesigned all emojis from <a href="/au-kddi/type-b-3/">Type B-3</a> and expanded the number of smileys available from one to seven. The new designs in this released used&nbsp;more vibrant colors, and this is the first set from au to include <a href="/au-kddi/type-c-2/pile-of-poo/">💩&nbsp;Pile of Poo</a> which had been <a href="/softbank/1997/pile-of-poo/">available</a> on some SoftBank (n&eacute;e J-Phone)&nbsp;as early as 1997.

Created in 2000, but potentially not in widespread use until&nbsp;2002. Replaced by <a href="/au-kddi/type-d-1/">Type D-1</a> in 2003.

Type C-2

The same set of characters as available in <a href="/au-kddi/type-b-2/">Type B-2</a>&nbsp;with similar designs that included additional shading and detail.&nbsp;Available from August 2000, and&nbsp;commonly seen on au devices in&nbsp;2001-2002. This character set was supported <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20071009235732/http://developer.openwave.com:80/documentation/xhtml_mp_css_reference/icons.html#674480">in the OpenWave Mobile Browser 6.2</a> on au devices.

Replaced in 2002 by <a href="/au-kddi/type-c-2/">Type C-2</a>, which used entirely different designs.
