Apple&#39;s lion <a href="/apple/ios-10.2/lion/">previously</a> featured a timid-looking expression.

Lion Face

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_buffalo">water buffalo</a>, a bovine used to plough rice fields in parts of Asia. Depicted in gray or black in full profile on all fours facing left, with a tail and broad horns curled up at the tips.

Often used to represent a bull. Not to be confused with <a href="/ox/">🐂 Ox</a>, though their applications may overlap.

Microsoft&rsquo;s design was <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/water-buffalo/">previously</a> brown.

Water Buffalo

A tiger, a large cat with an orange coat and black stripes. Depicted in full profile on all fours facing left, with a long tail, its distinctive stripes, and, on some platforms, white patches.

Google&rsquo;s design is noticeably more cartoon-styled, as Facebook&rsquo;s <a href="/facebook/2.0/tiger/">previously</a> was. Microsoft&rsquo;s design <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/tiger/">previously</a> featured a yellow, forward-facing tiger, as if on the prowl.

Tiger

An elephant, the largest land animal on Earth,&nbsp;with a long trunk and, often, tusks. Generally depicted in gray in full profile on all fours facing left, with tusks and prominent ears, as an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_elephant">African</a> (vs. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_elephant">Asian</a>) elephant.

<a href="/google/android-7.0/elephant/">Google</a> and <a href="/facebook/2.0/elephant/">Facebook&rsquo;s</a> elephants were previously blue in color. Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/elephant/">previously</a> featured a cartoon-styled elephant with a red blanket&nbsp;on its back and blowing a <a href="/red-heart/">red heart</a> from its trunk.

Elephant

The face of a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicorn">unicorn</a>, a mythical creature in the form of a white <a href="/horse/">horse</a> with a single, long horn on its forehead. Generally depicted as a white horse head facing left with a pink or purple mane and a yellow or rainbow-colored horn.

In addition to the mythical unicorn, may be used to convey whimsy, fantasy, uniqueness, specialness, peace, and love. Often used for various content related to the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_symbols#Unicorns">LGBTQ community</a>, thanks in part to its <a href="/rainbow-flag/">rainbow</a> colors on many platforms. Also often used in association with &ldquo;unicorn&rdquo; startups. Sometimes used as a rainbow or holographic accent color.

Vendors implement the emoji with the same or similar design as <a href="/horse-face/">🐴 Horse Face</a>, but with colorful hair and a horn.

Available as an Apple&nbsp;<a href="/animoji/">Animoji</a>.

WhatsApp&rsquo;s unicorn is facing right. Google&rsquo;s unicorn <a href="/google/android-7.0/unicorn/">previously</a> had a brown mane, <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/unicorn/">Samsung&rsquo;s</a> a pink mane. Twitter&rsquo;s unicorn was <a href="/twitter/twemoji-2.0/unicorn/">previously</a> purple-colored with a blue mane.

Unicorn Face

A gorilla, the powerful, black-haired great ape. Variously depicted in full profile on all fours facing left or as a friendly, cartoon-styled gorilla face looking straight ahead.

Most platforms&#39; designs&nbsp;depict&nbsp;a full gorilla, as a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorilla">silverback</a>, with strong shoulders and reddish forehead. Twitter&rsquo;s designs feature a black and gray gorilla face with a neutral expression and prominent forehead and jaw.

<a href="/google/android-8.0/gorilla/">Google</a>, <a href="/samsung/one-ui-1.0/gorilla/">Samsung</a>, and <a href="/facebook/2.0/gorilla/">Facebook&rsquo;s&nbsp;</a>designs&nbsp;previously featured only a gorilla face.

This emoji is considered <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/how-the-monkey-emoji-is-racist/">racist in some contexts</a>, particularly when used to disparage, insult, and abuse people with dark skin, especially Black people.

Gorilla

A hippopotamus, a squat&nbsp;water mammal with huge jaws. Generally depicted in gray or tan in full profile facing left.

Google&rsquo;s design used to&nbsp;feature&nbsp;a purple, cartoon-styled hippopotamus face. Facebook&rsquo;s hippopotamus is opening massive jaws, revealing tusks.

Hippopotamus

A leopard, a large cat with a yellowish-brown coat and black-and-gold spots. Depicted in full profile on all fours facing left, with a long tail and its distinctive&nbsp;pattern.

Sometimes&nbsp;used to represent jaguars, panthers, cheetahs, and related cats. May also be used to indicate leopard prints in fashion. Not to be confused with <a href="/tiger/">🐅 Tiger</a>.

Google&rsquo;s design is noticeably more cartoon-styled. Microsoft&rsquo;s design was <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/leopard/">previously</a> solid yellowish-brown in color, resembling a cougar or mountain lion.

Leopard

A zebra, a horse-like mammal with black-and-white stripes. Variously depicted in full profile on all fours facing left or as a&nbsp;zebra head facing left with a short mane.

Not to be confused with <a href="/horse/">🐎 Horse</a>. Some vendors implement a similar face as their <a href="/horse-face/">🐴 Horse Face</a>.

Apple, Microsoft, WhatsApp, Samsung, and Facebook&rsquo;s designs feature the full animal; Google and Twitter&#39;s&nbsp;designs feature a head with a short mane and black muzzle. Facebook&rsquo;s design <a href="/facebook/2.1/zebra/">previously</a> featured only a zebra head, as did <a href="/samsung/one-ui-1.0/zebra/">Samsung&#39;s</a>.

Zebra Face

A giraffe, the tallest animal on Earth, with spots and a long neck. Generally depicted in yellow or tan in full profile on all fours facing left, with distinctive brown spots and small, horn-like structures.

Samsung&rsquo;s designs feature a giraffe face looking straight ahead. Facebook&rsquo;s design <a href="/facebook/2.1/giraffe/">previously</a> featured only a giraffe face, as did <a href="/microsoft/windows-10-fall-creators-update/giraffe/">Microsoft&#39;s</a>.

Giraffe Face

A monkey, a small primate with long limbs and tail for climbing trees. Generally depicted as a cartoon-styled, brown monkey with a cheeky facial expression, shown in full profile facing&nbsp;left, sitting on its hind legs with a long, curled tail and round ears.

As with <a href="/monkey-face/">🐵 Monkey Face</a>, often used with a playful tone or for metaphorical senses of monkey.

Monkey

A crocodile, a stealthy reptile with massive jaws. Generally depicted as a light-green crocodile on all fours, with its long tail curving down to its toothed jaws, facing left.

Earth Globe Europe-Africa

A deer, a fleet-footed, hoofed mammal whose males (bucks, stags) generally have antlers. Variously depicted as a light-brown deer in full profile on all fours facing left or as a&nbsp;deer face looking straight head;&nbsp;both depictions feature large, branched antlers.

May be used to represent elk, moose, antelope, or reindeer, especially in connection with <a href="/christmas/">Christmas</a>.&nbsp;Most platforms display a deer in full profile.&nbsp;Twitter&nbsp;shows a deer face.

Google&rsquo;s deer <a href="/google/android-8.0/deer/">previously</a> had a red nose, as <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolph_the_Red-Nosed_Reindeer">Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer</a>.
