The eyes and mouth slip down the face, yet still maintain a distorted smile. This quality lends this emoji to sarcasm.

Can be used literally to talk about extreme heat. Can also be used metaphorically to talk about embarrassment, shame, a slowly sinking sense of dread, or feeling overwhelmed in some way.

Zon Met Gezicht

A yellow sun partially covered by a small, white cloud. Position of the cloud varies across platforms.

May be used as a weather icon to represent a mostly sunny day.

Zon Achter Kleine Wolk

A bottle of lotion for the skin, such as moisturizer or sunscreen (sunblock). May be used for other hygienic liquids, including shampoo and <a href="/nl/badkuip/">body wash</a>, as well as beauty products.

Appearance varies across platforms, but commonly depicted in white and gold colors. Some designs also include a <a href="/nl/druppel">droplet</a>&nbsp;icon on the bottle.

Most&nbsp;platforms feature a bottle with a pump, though others previously displayed&nbsp;a cylinder with a cap.

Lotionfles

A smiling yellow face with glasses, often with teeth showing, originally buck teeth on most platforms.

While this emoji is often used by people calling themselves nerds in a self-deprecating way, the nerdy glasses paired with buck teeth can, and often does, evoke anti-Asian stereotypes. The fact that the default color of emoji faces is yellow further pushes this emoji into racist &quot;<a href="https://hyperallergic.com/189200/asians-meet-new-yellow-emoji-with-frowny-face/">yellowface</a>&quot;&nbsp;territory.

Some platforms have redesigned nerd face&nbsp;over time to not have buck teeth, perhaps in acknowledgement of the harm this imagery&nbsp;may cause. Google, WhatsApp, Facebook, and JoyPixels <a href="/nl/google/android-7.0/nerdgezicht/">originally</a> <a href="/nl/facebook/2.0/nerdgezicht/">featured</a> <a href="/nl/joypixels/4.0/nerdgezicht/">designs</a> with buck teeth but have since changed (or completely removed) the teeth on nerd face.

Apple, Twitter, Microsoft, Samsung, and other platforms still use designs for this emoji that include buck teeth.

Nerdgezicht

A large, open umbrella, as provides shade at a beach or patio. Generally depicted as a striped umbrella inserted into a patch of sand and tilted to the right.

Commonly used for various content concerning the beach, summer vacations (holidays), sunny weather, and relaxing outdoors.

The color of the stripes varies&nbsp;across platforms; Apple (no sand) and Samsung&rsquo;s are red and yellow, while Google,&nbsp;Twitter and Facebook&rsquo;s red and white, and WhatsApp&rsquo;s <a href="/nl/regenboog/">rainbow</a>-colored.&nbsp;Google&rsquo;s was <a href="/nl/google/android-8.0/strandparasol/">previously</a> blue and white.

Not to be confused with <a href="/nl/search/?q=umbrella">other umbrella-related emoji</a>, such as <a href="/nl/strand-met-parasol/">🏖️ Beach With Umbrella</a>, though their applications may overlap.

Strandparasol

A beach showing sand, and an umbrella for protection from the <a href="/nl/zon/" title=" ☀️ Black Sun With Rays">sun</a>.

Strand Met Parasol

Sunglasses that can be worn outside for protection from the sun. Often association with connotations of being &quot;cool&quot;, or leisurely in sunny places.

This emoji shows only the sunglasses, which differs from the <a href="/nl/lachend-gezicht-met-zonnebril/" title=" 😎 Smiling Face With Sunglasses">smiling face with sunglasses</a> emoji.

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/nl/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/nl/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in 2014, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms. Samsung Emoji List — Emojis for Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note [Updated 2019]

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 28 March 2024, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.1&nbsp;revised a considerable number of previously available emoji designs.

Many emojis had subtle modifications made to their outline, contrast, and shading, including the majority of&nbsp;<a href="/nl/smileys-en-mensen">🧑 People</a> emojis. Meanwhile, many emojis within&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href="/nl/reizen-en-plaatsen">🚀 Travel &amp; Places</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/nl/voorwerpen">💡 Objects</a> categories were given more extensive redesigns.&nbsp;

One UI 6.1

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 30&nbsp;October 2023, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.0&nbsp;featured a completely new design style for the majority of the vendor&#39;s emojis.

All smiley, food, and animal emoji designs have been revised in this update, as have the majority of the people emojis.

This is the most significant revision of the vendor&#39;s emoji set since&nbsp;February 2018&#39;s&nbsp;Experience 9.0 update, which introduced a significant number of design revisions that were consistent with those used on other platforms.

This update also introduced support for the 2023 Emoji 15.1 recommendation list.

One UI 6.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from October 2022, Samsung&#39;s One UI 5.0 provided support for both&nbsp;2021&#39;s <a href="/nl/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> and 2022&#39;s <a href="/nl/emoji-15.0/">Emoji 15.0</a>&nbsp;recommendations.

Prior to the release of One UI 5.0, many Samsung users may have seen support for <a href="/nl/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;emojis provided via <a href="/nl/google/">Google&#39;s emoji design set</a>. This was due to Google&#39;s expansion of&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>&nbsp;in 2021.

A select number of users also reported seeing <a href="/nl/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;designs in Samsung&#39;s emoji font when updating to One UI 4.1.1 in September 2022.

One UI 5.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from&nbsp;mid-January 2022, this small emoji updated changed the design of Samsung&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="/nl/sterretjes/">✨ Sparkles</a> emoji to be more consistent&nbsp;with those of other emoji vendors.

Additional devices received this emoji update alongside Samsung&#39;s&nbsp;One UI 4.1 update, which was made widely available in March 2022 after initially debuting with the Galaxy S22 series of devices a month earlier.
