A gesture showing the index finger and&nbsp;thumb touching&nbsp;to make an open circle. Represents &ldquo;I&rsquo;m okay&rdquo; or &ldquo;yes, that&rsquo;s correct / good&rdquo;.

In American Sign Language (ASL), the number nine is represented with this gesture. The same hand sign can be seen as offensive in some cultures, including in parts of Europe, the Middle East, and South America.

A yellow face with raised eyebrows, enlarged eyes, slight frown, and long nose,&nbsp;indicating&nbsp;it&rsquo;s telling a lie in the manner of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinocchio">Pinocchio</a>. Like that character, Facebook&#39;s design features a wooden nose.&nbsp;

May represent lying, a liar, and other concepts of deceit and dishonesty to varying degrees of intensity. Sometimes used to convey disbelief (e.g., You must be kidding) or feeling abashed (e.g., as if&nbsp;caught in the act of lying).

A yellow face with open eyes, a thin closed-mouth smile, and a single tear falling from one of its eyes. Can be used to express a wide range of emotions and expressions&nbsp;including gratitude, tender happiness, an attempt to look happy when actually sad, or&nbsp;smiling through pain. Can also be a response to something that is bittersweet.

This emoji and <a href="/nl/enigszins-lachend-gezicht/">🙂 Slightly Smiling Face</a> have a similar smile, and <a href="/nl/huilend-gezicht/">😢 Crying Face</a> and <a href="/nl/huilende-kat/">😿 Crying Cat</a> have a similar lone tear. This same update assigned Apple&#39;s original 🤭 design to <a href="/nl/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&#39;s new&nbsp;<a href="/nl/gezicht-met-open-ogen-en-hand-over-mond/">🫢 Face with Open Eyes and Hand Over Mouth</a> emoji.

The Unicode Consortium approved the following characters as part of <a href="http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode7.0.0/">Unicode 7.0</a>, released on June 16, 2014.&nbsp;Support for these emoji characters rely on updates from platform vendors such as Apple, Google and Microsoft.

Initially, 250&nbsp;new characters in Unicode 7.0 were approved for emoji presentation, however this was later reduced to 103 Standard Additions which are listed below. The other characters remain part of Unicode, but are not recommended&nbsp;to be included as emojis.

The exception to this was the <a href="/nl/spraakballon-naar-links/" title="🗨 Left Speech Bubble">Left Speech Bubble</a>, and as such wasn&#39;t initially specified on other platforms as an emoji. A later-accepted&nbsp;<a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/diverse-spy-proposal/">proposal</a> updated this.

Skype has a series of emoji-like emoticons which have their own distinct animated appearance.

A subset of Skype emoticons were available in Microsoft Teams before the 3D versions of Microsoft&#39;s new Fluent emoji set began <a href="https://twitter.com/Emojipedia/status/1491752269880115200">rolling out in February 2022</a>.

The Skype emoticon set differs from the emoji set from parent company Microsoft, which is used as&nbsp;<a href="/nl/microsoft/">the system-wide emoji font in&nbsp;Windows 10</a>.

Skype uses its own system of shortcodes to enter each emoticon, for instance:

The majority of&nbsp;Skype Emoticons have&nbsp;equivalents in the Unicode Standard, while a number of emoticons go beyond what is offered by the standardized emoji set. For example, Skype&#39;s offers&nbsp;variety of additional pride-related flags alongside <a href="/nl/pride/">🏳️&zwj;🌈 Pride</a>&nbsp;and <a href="/nl/transgendervlag/">🏳️&zwj;⚧️&nbsp;Transgender Flag</a>, such as those shown below.
