iOS 11.3 was a minor update to the iOS emoji set. The main change in this release is the modification of four emojis used in Apple&#39;s separate Animoji feature. The iOS 8.3&nbsp;emoji update was introduced to Macs with&nbsp;OS X 10.10.3&nbsp;Yosemite.

iOS 8.3

iOS 6.0 was the first release of Apple&#39;s emoji font that displayed&nbsp;<a href="/unicode-6.0/">Unicode 6.0</a> emojis on the iOS emoji keyboard. Many characters previously thought to be new in iOS 6.0 were available in iOS 5.1, but not shown on the emoji keyboard.&nbsp;

A number of changes were made to emoji images in this release including the gavel being changed to display a <a href="/hammer/" title="🔨 Hammer">hammer</a>&nbsp;and the <a href="/orange-book/">orange book</a> being fixed to display as orange instead of purple.

Emojis in this release are compatible with&nbsp;Macs running OS X 10.8 Mountain&nbsp;Lion.

iOS 6.0

iOS 5.1&nbsp;was released in March 2012 and was the first version of Apple&#39;s emoji font to use cross-platform compatible emoji codepoints from the&nbsp;Unicode Standard.&nbsp;Previous releases of iOS supported emoji characters in the private use area of Unicode.

Support for a number of new emojis was available in this release, but not these new emojis were not displayed&nbsp;on the iOS emoji keyboard. As such, widespread use of emojis from <a href="/unicode-6.0/">Unicode 6.0</a> was not achieved until the release of <a href="/apple/ios-6.0/">iOS 6.0</a>&nbsp;later in 2012.

Emojis in this release were also supported in Mac OS X 10.7.4 and above.
