New emojis from Apple for 2021 available as part of&nbsp;iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5, tvOS 14.5, watchOS 7.4, and macOS 11.3.

iOS 12.1

iOS 11.3 was a minor update to the iOS emoji set. The main change in this release is the modification of four emojis used in Apple&#39;s separate Animoji feature. First <a href="https://www.apple.com/uk/newsroom/2018/01/apple-previews-ios-11-3/">announced</a> in January&nbsp;2018, this release was finalized in March 2018.

iOS 11.3

iOS 11.2 changed a number of emojis, most notably reverting the <a href="/es/vaso-de-whisky/">Tumbler Glass</a> to a previous design.

iOS 11.2

iOS 11.1 was released on October 31, 2017 and&nbsp;includes 240 new emojis&nbsp;including&nbsp;<a href="/es/jirafa/">Giraffe</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/es/cara-vomitando/">Face Vomiting</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/es/genio/">Genie</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/es/saur%C3%B3podo/">Sauropod (dinosaur)</a> and <a href="/es/emoji-5.0/">more</a>. A number of existing emojis changed in this update, such as <a href="/es/abeja/">Honeybee</a>, <a href="/es/carnero/">Ram</a>, and <a href="/es/vaso-de-whisky/">Tumbler Glass</a>.

iOS 10.3

iOS 10.0

iOS 9.3 is a minor revision to the updates&nbsp;provided in iOS 9.1. iOS 9.1 was the first version of iOS&nbsp;to include emojis from <a href="/es/unicode-7.0/">Unicode 7.0</a> and <a href="/es/unicode-8.0/">Unicode 8.0</a>. This update&nbsp;also included a number of retro-actively assigned emojis to the Apple Color Emoji font.

iOS 9.1

iOS 9.0 added 44 new emoji flags, primarily consisting of smaller countries and territories. OS X El Capitan 10.11.0 was released on September 30, 2015 and supports the same range of flags.

iOS 9.0

iOS 8.3&nbsp;was the first version of iOS&nbsp;to include <a href="/es/secuencia-de-modificador-de-emoji/">emoji modifiers</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/es/zero-width-joiner/">ZWJ</a>&nbsp;sequences for family&nbsp;combinations. This release also added 198 country&nbsp;flags, and updated artwork for many existing emojis.

The iOS 8.3&nbsp;emoji update was introduced to Macs with&nbsp;OS X 10.10.3&nbsp;Yosemite.

iOS 8.3

iOS 6.0 was the first release of Apple&#39;s emoji font that displayed&nbsp;<a href="/es/unicode-6.0/">Unicode 6.0</a> emojis on the iOS emoji keyboard. Many characters previously thought to be new in iOS 6.0 were available in iOS 5.1, but not shown on the emoji keyboard.&nbsp;

A number of changes were made to emoji images in this release including the gavel being changed to display a <a href="/es/martillo/" title="🔨 Hammer">hammer</a>&nbsp;and the <a href="/es/libro-naranja/">orange book</a> being fixed to display as orange instead of purple.

Emojis in this release are compatible with&nbsp;Macs running OS X 10.8 Mountain&nbsp;Lion.

iOS 6.0

iOS 5.1&nbsp;was released in March 2012 and was the first version of Apple&#39;s emoji font to use cross-platform compatible emoji codepoints from the&nbsp;Unicode Standard.&nbsp;Previous releases of iOS supported emoji characters in the private use area of Unicode.

Support for a number of new emojis was available in this release, but not these new emojis were not displayed&nbsp;on the iOS emoji keyboard. As such, widespread use of emojis from <a href="/es/unicode-6.0/">Unicode 6.0</a> was not achieved until the release of <a href="/es/apple/ios-6.0/">iOS 6.0</a>&nbsp;later in 2012.

Emojis in this release were also supported in Mac OS X 10.7.4 and above.

iOS 5.1

iOS 5.0 supported emoji characters in the private use area, prior to inclusion of emoji in the Unicode Standard.

These were not cross-platform compatible, and have been included here for image reference. Codepoints have been updated to match the current release of the Unicode Standard.

iOS 5.0 was released on October 12, 2011. This released did not add any new emojis, but <a href="/es/apple/ios-5.0/changed/">changed</a> a number of emoji designs including&nbsp;<a href="/es/cocinar/">🍳&nbsp;Cooking</a> (previously an egg being cracked),&nbsp;<a href="/es/concha-de-mar/">🐚&nbsp;Spiral Shell</a> (previously a fan shaped shell),&nbsp;<a href="/es/birrete/">🎓&nbsp;Graduation Cap</a> (previously a Graduation shirt) and&nbsp;<a href="/es/bander%C3%ADn-en-hoyo/">⛳&nbsp;Flag in Hole</a> (previously a golf ball).

This emoji update was not made available for Mac OS X.

iOS 5.0

iOS 4.0 supported emoji characters in the private use area, prior to inclusion of emoji in the Unicode Standard.

These were not cross-platform compatible, and have been included here for image reference. Codepoints have been updated to match the current release of the Unicode Standard.

iOS 4.0 was released on June 21, 2010. This update added no new emojis, but did increase the resolution of the emoji font and update the design for the&nbsp;<a href="/es/televisi%C3%B3n/">📺&nbsp;Television</a>&nbsp;emoji.

Mac OS X 10.7.0 Lion also supported the same emojis in this set.

iOS 4.0

iPhone OS 2.2 was Apple&#39;s first implementation of emoji support. This was created using private use area codes, and software-limited to iPhone users in Japan for compatibility with the <a href="/es/softbank/">Softbank emoji set</a>. Emoji support <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20090703152413/http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2404">required</a> iPhone OS 2.2 and a SoftBank SIM card.
