One UI 6.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from October 2022, Samsung&#39;s One UI 5.0 provided support for both&nbsp;2021&#39;s <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> and 2022&#39;s <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.0/">Emoji 15.0</a>&nbsp;recommendations.

Prior to the release of One UI 5.0, many Samsung users may have seen support for <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;emojis provided via <a href="/google/">Google&#39;s emoji design set</a>. This was due to Google&#39;s expansion of&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>&nbsp;in 2021.

A select number of users also reported seeing <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;designs in Samsung&#39;s emoji font when updating to One UI 4.1.1 in September 2022.

One UI 5.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from&nbsp;mid-January 2022, this small emoji updated changed the design of Samsung&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="/sparkles/">✨ Sparkles</a> emoji to be more consistent&nbsp;with those of other emoji vendors.

Additional devices received this emoji update alongside Samsung&#39;s&nbsp;One UI 4.1 update, which was made widely available in March 2022 after initially debuting with the Galaxy S22 series of devices a month earlier.

Beginning its rollout on&nbsp;2021-11-15 for Samsung&#39;s Galaxy S21 series of mobile devices,&nbsp;Samsung One UI 4.0&nbsp;added support for <a href="/emoji-13.1/">Emoji 13.1</a>.

Beginning its rollout in late July 2021 to select Samsung&rsquo;s Galaxy Z devices, One UI 3.1.1 updated a small number of existing emoji designs.

Samsung One UI 2.0&nbsp;began rolling out to users in February 2020.&nbsp;The first major devices to launch with this release were the&nbsp;Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy Z Flip.

This update provides support to the 136 gender-neutral person&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/emoji-zwj-sequences-three-letters-many-possibilities">ZWJ sequences </a>recommended in <a href="/emoji-12.1/">Emoji 12.1</a>. However, the previously-released&nbsp;<a href="/woman/">👩 Woman&nbsp;</a>variant designs are displayed&nbsp;instead of a new gender-neutral design.

The 30 people holding hands emojis recommended&nbsp;in <a href="/emoji-12.1/">Emoji 12.1</a>&nbsp;are absent from this update.

One UI 2.1

Samsung One UI 2.0&nbsp;began rolling out to users in January 2020.

This update corrected a <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/samsungs-emoji-adventures/">long-standing design oddity</a> in the Samsung emoji set, where the design for <a href="/regional-indicator-symbol-letter-u/">🇺 Regional Indicator Symbol Letter U</a>&nbsp;displayed the letter V and <a href="/regional-indicator-symbol-letter-v/">🇻 Regional Indicator Symbol Letter V</a>&nbsp;displayed the letter U.

One UI 2.0

Samsung One UI 1.5 began rolling out to users in August 2019.&nbsp;The first major device&nbsp;to launch with this release was the Samsung&nbsp;Galaxy Note 10.

Samsung Experience 9.0 began rolling out to most users from the week of February 12, 2018 alongside the Samsung Android Oreo (Android 8.0)&nbsp;release.&nbsp;First&nbsp;<a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-experience-9-0-beta-now-available">released as a beta</a> in November 2017, this&nbsp;comes standard on the new Samsung Galaxy S9.

Notable updates in this release include yellow becoming the default color for emoji skin tone (instead of pale white)&nbsp;and designs that are more consistent with those used on other platforms such as&nbsp;the <a href="/face-with-rolling-eyes/">rolling eyes emoji</a>.

Samsung Experience 8.0 was released on&nbsp;January 19, 2017 and&nbsp;brought compatibility with <a href="/emoji-4.0/">Emoji 4.0</a>, with new professions added, gendered emojis, and the rainbow flag.

iOS 12.1

iOS 11.3 was a minor update to the iOS emoji set. The main change in this release is the modification of four emojis used in Apple&#39;s separate Animoji feature. First <a href="https://www.apple.com/uk/newsroom/2018/01/apple-previews-ios-11-3/">announced</a> in January&nbsp;2018, this release was finalized in March 2018.

iOS 11.3

iOS 11.2 changed a number of emojis, most notably reverting the <a href="/tumbler-glass/">Tumbler Glass</a> to a previous design.

iOS 11.2

iOS 11.1 was released on October 31, 2017 and&nbsp;includes 240 new emojis&nbsp;including&nbsp;<a href="/giraffe/">Giraffe</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/face-vomiting/">Face Vomiting</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/genie/">Genie</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/sauropod/">Sauropod (dinosaur)</a> and <a href="/emoji-5.0/">more</a>. iOS 9.1

iOS 9.0 added 44 new emoji flags, primarily consisting of smaller countries and territories. OS X El Capitan 10.11.0 was released on September 30, 2015 and supports the same range of flags.

iOS 9.0

iOS 8.3&nbsp;was the first version of iOS&nbsp;to include <a href="/emoji-modifier-sequence/">emoji modifiers</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/zero-width-joiner/">ZWJ</a>&nbsp;sequences for family&nbsp;combinations. This release also added 198 country&nbsp;flags, and updated artwork for many existing emojis.

The iOS 8.3&nbsp;emoji update was introduced to Macs with&nbsp;OS X 10.10.3&nbsp;Yosemite.

iOS 8.3

iOS 6.0 was the first release of Apple&#39;s emoji font that displayed&nbsp;<a href="/unicode-6.0/">Unicode 6.0</a> emojis on the iOS emoji keyboard. Many characters previously thought to be new in iOS 6.0 were available in iOS 5.1, but not shown on the emoji keyboard.&nbsp;

A number of changes were made to emoji images in this release including the gavel being changed to display a <a href="/hammer/" title="🔨 Hammer">hammer</a>&nbsp;and the <a href="/orange-book/">orange book</a> being fixed to display as orange instead of purple.

Emojis in this release are compatible with&nbsp;Macs running OS X 10.8 Mountain&nbsp;Lion.

iOS 6.0

iOS 5.1&nbsp;was released in March 2012 and was the first version of Apple&#39;s emoji font to use cross-platform compatible emoji codepoints from the&nbsp;Unicode Standard.&nbsp;Previous releases of iOS supported emoji characters in the private use area of Unicode.

Support for a number of new emojis was available in this release, but not these new emojis were not displayed&nbsp;on the iOS emoji keyboard. As such, widespread use of emojis from <a href="/unicode-6.0/">Unicode 6.0</a> was not achieved until the release of <a href="/apple/ios-6.0/">iOS 6.0</a>&nbsp;later in 2012.

Emojis in this release were also supported in Mac OS X 10.7.4 and above.

iOS 5.1

iOS 5.0 supported emoji characters in the private use area, prior to inclusion of emoji in the Unicode Standard.

These were not cross-platform compatible, and have been included here for image reference. Codepoints have been updated to match the current release of the Unicode Standard.

iOS 5.0 was released on October 12, 2011. This released did not add any new emojis, but <a href="/apple/ios-5.0/changed/">changed</a> a number of emoji designs including&nbsp;<a href="/cooking/">🍳&nbsp;Cooking</a> (previously an egg being cracked),&nbsp;<a href="/spiral-shell/">🐚&nbsp;Spiral Shell</a> (previously a fan shaped shell),&nbsp;<a href="/graduation-cap/">🎓&nbsp;Graduation Cap</a> (previously a Graduation shirt) and&nbsp;<a href="/flag-in-hole/">⛳&nbsp;Flag in Hole</a> (previously a golf ball).

This emoji update was not made available for Mac OS X.

iOS 5.0

iOS 4.0 supported emoji characters in the private use area, prior to inclusion of emoji in the Unicode Standard.

These were not cross-platform compatible, and have been included here for image reference. Codepoints have been updated to match the current release of the Unicode Standard.

iOS 4.0 was released on June 21, 2010. This update added no new emojis, but did increase the resolution of the emoji font and update the design for the&nbsp;<a href="/television/">📺&nbsp;Television</a>&nbsp;emoji.

Mac OS X 10.7.0 Lion also supported the same emojis in this set.

iOS 4.0

iPhone OS 2.2 was Apple&#39;s first implementation of emoji support. This was created using private use area codes, and software-limited to iPhone users in Japan for compatibility with the <a href="/softbank/">Softbank emoji set</a>. Emoji support <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20090703152413/http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2404">required</a> iPhone OS 2.2 and a SoftBank SIM card.

Google&rsquo;s 2014 design shows <a href="/google/android-5.0/person-tipping-hand/">a blob wearing white gloves and a pillbox hat</a>. Microsoft&rsquo;s 2015 design shows <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/person-tipping-hand/">a woman doing this gesture while winking</a>, a facial expression that further reinforces the sassy and sarcastic uses of this emoji.
