A cartoon-styled representation of a collision. Depicted as a star-like, orange-and-yellow fiery burst, generally with one point extending to the bottom right, as if from the source of the collision.

May be used to represent various types of bangs, explosions, or crashes. Like <a href="/fire/">🔥 Fire</a> and <a href="/hundred-points/">💯 Hundred Points</a>, commonly used to represent something is excellent or exciting in some way.

Apple implements a version of 💥 Collision in its <a href="/firecracker/">🧨 Firecracker</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="/camera-with-flash/">📸 Camera With Flash</a>.

Collision Symbol

A&nbsp;<a href="/mobile-phone/" title="📱 Mobile Phone">mobile&nbsp;phone</a> held up to take a selfie (photo of the person holding the phone or camera). Generally represented as a disembodied arm holding a mobile phone.

Selfie

A wedge of yellow-orange cheese with holes, like a Swiss, but used for the food in general. May be used for various cheese-related slang expressions (e.g., &ldquo;cheesy,&rdquo; &ldquo;say cheese,&rdquo; &ldquo;big cheese&rdquo;).

Cheese Wedge

A framed picture of a painting or photograph, as displayed in a gallery or on a household wall. Vendors feature various scenes, though generally a lush, sunny landscape of hills and <a href="/mountain/">mountains</a>, in a gold frame.

Commonly used for various content concerning&nbsp;art, museums, and interior design and decor. May also be used as an icon for a picture, as before an upload, link, or credit.

Microsoft&rsquo;s design <a href="/microsoft/windows-11/framed-picture/">previously</a> showed <a href="/ninja-cat/">Ninja Cat</a>.&nbsp;An&nbsp;earlier Microsoft&nbsp;design&nbsp;<a href="/microsoft/windows-10/framed-picture/">featured</a>&nbsp;the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mona_Lisa">Mona Lisa</a>, as did a previous&nbsp;<a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/framed-picture/">Samsung</a>&nbsp;design. Frame with Picture

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pager">pager</a>, as worn on the waist to alert a person to a phone call&nbsp;or short text message. Popular in the 1980&ndash;90s before <a href="/mobile-phone/">mobile phones</a>, though still used by some medical and emergency personnel. Very occasionally used to represent alerts, digital communication, or nostalgia for old technology.

Depicted as a black device with operating buttons and a green screen displaying various&nbsp;numbers across platforms, including:

Pager

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fax">fax</a> machine, as scans and transmits documents over a telephone line. Common in the 1980&ndash;90s before the internet. Depicted as a white or black machine with a <a href="/telephone-receiver/">telephone handset</a>, keypad, display screen, and paper in its tray.

Sometimes used in emoji&nbsp;form as&nbsp;an alternative to the words&nbsp;facts, due to the similarity of pronounciation. In a sentence:&nbsp;&quot;all 📠 no 🖨&quot;

Fax Machine

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MiniDisc">minidisc</a>, depicted as a small, silver or gold <a href="/optical-disk/">optical disc</a> housed in a square cartridge, its shutter positioned to the right.

<a href="http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/02/sony-announces-the-end-of-the-minidisc/">Discontinued</a> as an audio and data storage format in 2013 due to the success of CD and MP3 technology, though the emoji is commonly used to represent CDs, DVDs, and related film and music content, especially albums.

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/computer-disk/">previously featured</a> a silver disc labeled MD, for minidisc. <a href="/au-kddi/type-a-2/computer-disk/">Early designs</a> from au by KDDI showed an angled <a href="/floppy-disk/">💾 Floppy Disk</a>, perhaps as being inserted or ejected into a computer drive.

Minidisc

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3.5_floppy">3.5-inch floppy disk</a>, a data storage format popular in the 1980&ndash;90s but largely preserved as a Save icon in computer programs. Shown with its silver shutter positioned up and in a black housing with&nbsp;a white label, accented with blue or red.

Occasionally used for various content concerning computers, including nostalgia for old technology, as well as to represent electronic saving.

Floppy Disk

A classic movie camera. Depicted as a black camera with two mounted reels of <a href="/film-frames/">film</a>, viewfinder, and lens pointed left or right.

Commonly used for various content concerning movies, film, and video as well as an icon for a video, as before an upload, link, or credit. May also be used in relation to the 2017&nbsp;<a href="/emoji-movie/">Emoji Movie</a>.

Facebook&rsquo;s design <a href="/facebook/1.0/movie-camera/">previously resembled</a> a <a href="/video-camera/">video camera</a> mounted on a tripod.

Not to be confused with <a href="/film-projector/">📽️ Film Projector</a>.

Movie Camera

A strip of film, as used in a&nbsp;<a href="/movie-camera/">movie camera</a> or <a href="/camera/">photography</a>. Generally depicted as several&nbsp;horizontal frames of unexposed film with black trim and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_perforations">perforations</a>.

Commonly used for various content concerning movies, film, video, and photography as well as an icon for a video or picture, as before an upload, link, or credit.

Apple&rsquo;s design features an S-shaped, sepia-tinged strip.

Film Frames

A classic camera, as an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-lens_reflex_camera">SLR</a>&nbsp;used to take pictures before <a href="/mobile-phone/">camera phones</a>. Generally depicted with a black and silver casing with lens and operating controls.

Commonly used for various content concerning photography as well as an icon for a picture, as before an upload, link, or credit.

Camera

A video camera, as a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camcorder">camcorder</a> used to film home videos in the 1980&ndash;90s. Generally depicted as a gray or black video camera with viewfinder, control buttons, and lens pointed&nbsp;left.

Commonly used for various content concerning film and video as well as an icon for a video, as before an upload, link, or credit.

Samsung&rsquo;s is fitted with a <a href="/microphone/">microphone</a>. Google&rsquo;s design was <a href="/google/android-8.0/video-camera/">once&nbsp;blue</a> and also&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-7.0/video-camera/">previously featured</a> a flip screen.

Video Camera

A light bulb, as screwed into a <a href="/couch-and-lamp/">lamp</a> to light a room. Depicted as an incandescent bulb with a silver base, often shown with filament and a soft, yellow-white glow.

Commonly used to represent ideas (as over a head in a cartoon), thinking, and learning, often as paired with <a href="/thinking-face/">🤔 Thinking Face</a> or <a href="/thought-balloon/">💭 Thought Balloon</a>. May also represent various&nbsp;senses of light and brightness.

Electric Light Bulb

An everyday flashlight (electric torch), as used when the power goes out,&nbsp;<a href="/camping/">camping</a>, or telling scary stories. Generally depicted at a 45&deg; angle as a gray and black device with a switch, shown illuminated on many platforms.

Used for various content concerning and senses of&nbsp;light and lighting (e.g., spotlight).

Google&rsquo;s flashlight was <a href="/google/android-11.0/flashlight/">previously</a>&nbsp;orange.

Electric Torch

An emoji representing the cinema: a&nbsp;large screen showing the latest movies, available to the public. Displayed by most platforms as a film projector symbol, and previously&nbsp;by <a href="/google/android-4.4/cinema/">Google</a> and <a href="/microsoft/windows-10-anniversary-update/cinema/">Microsoft</a> as a cinema screen with curtains.

An open-source emoji design set consisting of user-submitted emoji designs.

The Unicode Consortium approved the following characters as part of <a href="http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode7.0.0/">Unicode 7.0</a>, released on June 16, 2014.&nbsp;Support for these emoji characters rely on updates from platform vendors such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

Initially, 250&nbsp;new characters in Unicode 7.0 were approved for emoji presentation, however this was later reduced to 103 Standard Additions which are listed below. The other characters remain part of Unicode, but are not recommended&nbsp;to be included as emojis.

The exception to this was the <a href="/left-speech-bubble/" title="🗨 Left Speech Bubble">Left Speech Bubble</a>, and as such wasn&#39;t initially specified on other platforms as an emoji. A later-accepted&nbsp;<a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/diverse-spy-proposal/">proposal</a>&nbsp;updated this.

Emojis displayed on iPhone, iPad,&nbsp;Mac, <a href="/apple-watch/">Apple Watch</a> and Apple TV use the&nbsp;Apple Color Emoji font installed on&nbsp;iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS. Some Apple devices support&nbsp;<a href="/animoji/">Animoji</a>&nbsp;and <a href="/memoji/">Memoji</a>.&nbsp;

The&nbsp;<a href="/apple-logo/">&nbsp;Apple logo</a>&nbsp;is a&nbsp;Private Use Area&nbsp;(PUA) character that is not cross-platform compatible&nbsp;but does work on Apple devices. Previously the&nbsp;<a href="/beats-1-logo/"> Beats 1 logo</a>&nbsp;was also supported as a PUA.

In March 2024 <a href="/apple/ios-17.4">iOS 17.4</a> included new emojis from <a href="/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1.</a>

Released on 5 March 2024 for iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4, this was the first version of iOS to support the 118 new emojis in <a href="/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a>, including various direction-specific people emojis.

This update also changed all family emojis to display with one of the four silhouette symbol designs also used for the new non-gender-specifying family emojis added in <a href="/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a>.

iOS 16.4

New emojis from Apple for 2022&nbsp;available as part of&nbsp;iOS 15.4, iPadOS 15.4, tvOS 15.4, watchOS 8.5, and macOS 12.3.

Released on 14&nbsp;March 2022, this was the first version of iOS to support the 112 new emojis in&nbsp;<a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>, including various multiple skin tone versions of the <a href="/handshake/">🤝 Handshake</a> emoji.

This Apple emoji update changed the appearance of the <a href="/face-with-hand-over-mouth/">🤭&nbsp;Face with Hand Over Mouth</a>&nbsp;emoji to be more consistent with the designs of other vendors, with this emoji&#39;s originaly design being given to the new <a href="/emoji-14.0/">🫢 Face with Open Eyes and Hand Over Mouth</a>&nbsp;emoji.
