A metal clamp or vice, as screwed to hold or compress materials like wood or metal. Depicted as a C-clamp or F-clamp, its screw in various positions.

Commonly used for various content concerning tools, equipment, and technology. May also represent file compression in computer science. An image of a clamp, for example, is featured in the WinZip icon.

Twitter’s clamp is red. Samsung’s design previously featured a clamp around a cardboard box.

Clamp was approved as part of Unicode 7.0 in 2014 under the name “Compression” and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
