Often used with an affectionate tone. May be used to represent a gerbil, guinea pig, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinchilla">chinchilla</a>, or related animals. Does not have a full-bodied hamster emoji counterpart.

Not to be confused with <a href="/mouse-trap/">🐭 Mouse Face</a>.

Microsoft&rsquo;s hamster was <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/hamster/">previously</a> gray.

Hamster Face

A pair of equal-length chopsticks, an eating utensil used throughout East Asia. Design and color vary&nbsp;widely by platform, though often red or wood-colored and with tips angled together. Featured in many platforms&#39;&nbsp;<a href="/steaming-bowl/">Steaming Bowl of Food</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="/takeout-box/">Takeout Box</a>. A counterpart to utensils such as&nbsp;<a href="/fork-and-knife/">Fork and Knife&nbsp;</a>and&nbsp;<a href="/spoon/">Spoon</a>.

Chopsticks

A music note emoji,&nbsp;which can denote song lyrics, or other music related topics.

Displays as two eighth-notes (quavers in British English) connected with a beam. A single eight-note (quaver) was previously used in <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/musical-note/">Microsoft</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-7.0/musical-note/">Google&rsquo;s</a>&nbsp;emoji designs.

Musical Note

Three eighth notes (quavers in British English), used to represent music or singing. Sometimes inserted&nbsp;next to&nbsp;quoted&nbsp;lyrics, to make it clear that they are part of a song.

Multiple Musical Notes

Headphones, used to listen to music or other forms audio, such as podcasts.&nbsp;Most platforms display this emoji with large over-ear headphones in shades of black, blue, and gray.

Apple previously displayed&nbsp;this emoji as <a href="/apple/ios-10.0/headphone/" title="🎧 Headphone on Apple iOS 10.0">iconic iPod white earbuds</a>, followed by black&nbsp;<a href="/apple/ios-10.2/headphone/">Beats headphones in 2016</a>, and in 2021 switched <a href="/apple/ios-14.5/headphone/">to display white AirPods Max</a>.

A red accordion with a keyboard on one side, buttons on the other side, and bellows in the middle. Used to talk about accordion music or music in general. Also may be used in reference to things that expand and contract, or are folded like the bellows of an accordion.

Banjo

A long drum with a tall body and a cylindrical or hourglass shell. Can be used to represent various drums found around the world from Africa to the Caribbean to Latin America to Asia. Types of long drum include (but are not limited to) djembe, talking drum, conga, bongo, tumbadora, atabaque, and dhol.

Can also be used to talk about drums, music, or beats in general.

Long Drum

A keyboard, as used to type on a <a href="/desktop-computer/">computer</a>. Generally depicted as a gray device with white or black keys. Used for various content concerning computers, typing, and writing.

Apple&rsquo;s design resembles the company&rsquo;s <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Keyboard">Magic Keyboard</a>. Microsoft&#39;s design was <a href="/microsoft/windows-10-anniversary-update/keyboard/">previously</a>&nbsp;blue.

A gold or silver hook. Can be used to represent literal hooks like the kinds you use to crochet or catch fish.

NTT Docomo (previously styled as DoCoMo) is a Japanese mobile phone carrier known for launching the&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-mode">i-mode</a>&nbsp;mobile internet service in early 1999.

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-mode">i-mode</a>&nbsp;contained one of the earliest emoji sets, designed by&nbsp;interface designer&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shigetaka_Kurita">Shigetaka Kurita</a>. While Kurita&#39;s 1999 emoji set is commonly cited as the first emoji set, it is more accurate to deem this <a href="/softbank/1997/">one of the first emoji sets</a>&nbsp;as earlier examples have been located, albeit on less-popular platforms than Docomo&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-mode">i-mode</a>.

Notably in 1995, Docomo produced a popular <a href="/pocket-bell">Pocket Bell</a> pager that allowed users to send each other&nbsp;simple pixel <a href="/red-heart">heart</a>&nbsp;(❤) and&nbsp;<a href="/telephone">telephone</a> (☎) symbols.&nbsp;The popularity of this feature amongst Japan&#39;s youth has consistently been cited by&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shigetaka_Kurita">Shigetaka Kurita</a>&nbsp;as a direct source of inspiration when creating <a href="/docomo/1999">Docomo&#39;s 1999</a> emoji set.

Note: Each&nbsp;emoji design within every pre-2010 emoji set has been mapped to its modern Unicode codepoint, despite these sets existing prior to Unicode emoji standardization.
