Android 5.0

Android 4.4 was the first release from Google to include support for color emoji designs&nbsp;and introduced a new bloblike gumdrop character which is used for various gestures and smileys.

This set of emojis was created by Google and&nbsp;<a href="http://www.ic4design.com/top/google_emoji.html">IC4 Design</a>&nbsp;and first shown <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2013/05/15/google-hangouts-messaging-app/">at Google I/O</a> on May 15, 2013.

Android 4.4

The first version of Android with native emoji support was Android 4.1. Many emojis at this timed&nbsp;feature the Android alien, which made emotions difficult to discern at small sizes. The last release to feature this black and white emoji set was Android 4.3.

Color emoji support was added in&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-4.4/">Android 4.4</a>.
