While this emoji is often used by people calling themselves nerds in a self-deprecating way, the nerdy glasses paired with buck teeth can, and often does, evoke anti-Asian stereotypes. The fact that the default color of emoji faces is yellow further pushes this emoji into racist &quot;<a href="https://hyperallergic.com/189200/asians-meet-new-yellow-emoji-with-frowny-face/">yellowface</a>&quot;&nbsp;territory.

Some platforms have redesigned nerd face&nbsp;over time to not have buck teeth, perhaps in acknowledgement of the harm this imagery&nbsp;may cause. Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, and JoyPixels <a href="/google/android-7.0/nerd-face/">originally</a> <a href="/facebook/2.0/nerd-face/">featured</a> <a href="/joypixels/4.0/nerd-face/">designs</a> with buck teeth but have since changed (or completely removed) the teeth on nerd face.

Apple, Twitter, Microsoft, Samsung, and other platforms still use designs for this emoji that include buck teeth.

Nerd Face

Intended to show a person pondering or deep in thought.&nbsp;Often used to question or scorn something or someone,&nbsp;as if saying Hmm, I don&#39;t know about that. Tone varies, including earnest, playful, puzzled, skeptical, and mocking.

A yellow face with a flat, neutral mouth and furrowed eyebrows, its left raised higher than its right. Conveys a wide variety of sentiments, including suspicion, skepticism, concern, consideration, disbelief, and disapproval.

Commonly used for various content concerning chemistry and science more generally. May represent various liquids, such as potions or&nbsp;medicines, as well as metaphorical laboratories and experiments.

Thanks to the alembic&rsquo;s association with alchemy, this emoji may also convey a sense of magic. And, thanks to its resemblance to a glass pipe, some use the emoji&nbsp;to represent&nbsp;a bong or other drug paraphernalia.

The Unicode Consortium has approved the following 41 emoji characters as part of <a href="http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode8.0.0/">Unicode 8.0</a>, released on June 17, 2015. HTC devices use their own emoji images, which are separate from the flat-color <a href="/google/">Google emojis</a>. These emoji images appear on devices such as the HTC 10 and&nbsp;HTC U11.

As of 2016, only a subset of emojis are supported by HTC. Non-smiley emojis show on HTC devices using the Noto Color Emoji font from Google.

HTC Emoji List — Emojis for HTC Sense

HTC Sense 8.0, released on April 12, 2016, was the first&nbsp;version of HTC Sense to <a href="https://www.pocket-lint.com/phones/buyers-guides/htc/137341-htc-sense-8-0-vs-sense-7-0-new-features-tweaks-and-changes-reviewed">hide the version number</a> on devices. This version is still available when using the <a href="http://www.htc.com/us/software/htc-sync-manager/">HTC Sync Manager</a> app.

HTC Sense 8 added support for smileys in&nbsp;<a href="/emoji-5.0/">Emoji 5.0</a>&nbsp;but&nbsp;removed all other custom emoji designs. Most emojis on modern HTC devices now use the&nbsp;<a href="/google/">Google Emoji set</a>. Sense 9.0 <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/farewell-to-htc-emojis/">does not make any additional changes</a> to the emoji set available in Sense 8.
