Mother Christmas

An orangutan, the orange-haired ape with long arms. Depicted facing forward, with a long broad face&nbsp;and sitting with its legs bent. Occasionally shown scratching its head. Color varies across platforms, ranging from orange&nbsp;to light brown.

This emoji is considered <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/how-the-monkey-emoji-is-racist/">racist in some contexts</a>,&nbsp;particularly when used to disparage, insult, and abuse people with dark skin, especially Black people.

Orangutan

The face of a wolf, a howling canine that hunts in packs. Generally depicted as a cartoon-styled face of a gray wolf with pointed ears,&nbsp;white cheeks and&nbsp;muzzle, and black nose.

Its expression is variously neutral, friendly, or slightly menacing, as in Google and Samsung&rsquo;s designs. Apple and Huawei&#39;s designs features the head of gray wolf, facing left.

Wolf Face

A deer, a fleet-footed, hoofed mammal whose males (bucks, stags) generally have antlers. Variously depicted as a light-brown deer in full profile on all fours facing left or as a&nbsp;deer face looking straight head;&nbsp;both depictions feature large, branched antlers.

May be used to represent elk, moose, antelope, or reindeer, especially in connection with <a href="/christmas/">Christmas</a>.&nbsp;Most platforms display a deer in full profile.&nbsp;Twitter&nbsp;shows a deer face.

Google&rsquo;s deer <a href="/google/android-8.0/deer/">previously</a> had a red nose, as <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolph_the_Red-Nosed_Reindeer">Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer</a>. Apple and WhatsApp&rsquo;s deers are <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-tailed_deer">white-tailed</a>.

Deer

A chipmunk, a small rodent with puffy cheeks. Depicted as a brown chipmunk in full profile facing left, sitting on its hind legs with a bushy tail and striped&nbsp;body. Generally holding an acorn or other <a href="/chestnut/">nut</a> in its hands.

May be used to represent a squirrel or related animals.

At one point, Google&rsquo;s chipmunk was looking forward, squinting with a buck tooth. Microsoft&rsquo;s <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/chipmunk/">previous</a> black-and-white design could be mistaken for a <a href="/skunk/">skunk</a>.

Chipmunk

A bat, the&nbsp;flying mammal of the night. Variously depicted as a brown, black, or gray bat, with wings outspread and pointy ears, facing forward or left.

Google&rsquo;s bat <a href="/google/android-8.0/bat/">was previously</a>&nbsp;purplish in color, bearing two fangs. <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/bat/">Samsung&rsquo;s</a> bat was previously brown, and&nbsp;<a href="/facebook/2.0/bat/">Facebook&rsquo;s</a> gray.

Often used with an affectionate tone. Does not have a full-bodied bear emoji counterpart.

Google&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/google/android-7.0/koala/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">previously&nbsp;</a>depicted a full-bodied koala climbing a tree, Softbank&rsquo;s koala<a href="https://emojipedia.org/softbank/2004/koala/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">&nbsp;previously</a>&nbsp;had brown fur.

Koala

Deciduous Tree

During the summer of 2024 this emoji became associated with then-Vice President of the Untied States Kamala Harris, referencing a viral clip of a speech made in May 2023 where she stated: &quot;You think you just fell out of a coconut tree? You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you.&rdquo;

Palm Tree

A rice plant, as grown before harvesting and processing. Depicted as a sheaf of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oryza_sativa">Asian rice</a> with green leaves and yellow seed heads drooping over to the right or left. Sometimes assumed to be wheat.

May be used to represent a variety of cereal grains (e.g., wheat, corn, oats, sorghum) as well as crops, fields and harvests, and farming more generally.

This emoji is occassionally used in the place of the word &#39;white&#39;&nbsp;as in, a <a href="/light-skin-tone/">white skin tone</a>. This form of <a href="https://www.wired.com/story/voldemorting-ultimate-seo-diss-resident-linguist/">Voldemorting</a>&nbsp;is potentially due to the similarity of the words &#39;white&#39; and &#39;wheat&#39;, and used&nbsp;<a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/kp0boe/what_is_the_deal_with_using_the_grain_emoji/">in online discussions</a>&nbsp;where it is&nbsp;undesirable to have the actual word written out.

Ear of Rice

An herb, a plant used in cooking or medicine. Depicted as a green sprig, as of basil, sage, or oregano, generally with five or seven leaves.

May be used for various content concerning cooking, herbal medicine, and plant life more generally. Occasionally used as slang for marijuana.

Camping

National Park

One or two stumps of wood, cut so the rings are showing. Can be used to talk about wood or building materials.&nbsp;

Also used in idioms with wood like knock on wood or&nbsp;out of the woods. Used to caption dic pics, often alongside the expression morning wood. Sometimes used in the context of games like Catan or Minecraft, where wood is a resource.
