A drinking cup with a straw. Depicted on many platforms as a disposable cup with a lid and bendy straw, as used to serve soft drinks at fast-food restaurants.&nbsp;May be used for a range of non-alcoholic beverages, including milkshakes, smoothies, juice, and to-go beverages.

Color and design vary&nbsp;by platform. <a href="http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/02/sony-announces-the-end-of-the-minidisc/">Discontinued</a> as an audio and data storage format in 2013 due to the success of CD and MP3 technology, though the emoji is commonly used to represent CDs, DVDs, and related film and music content, especially albums.

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/computer-disk/">previously featured</a> a silver disc labeled MD, for minidisc. <a href="/au-kddi/type-a-2/computer-disk/">Early designs</a> from au by KDDI showed an angled <a href="/floppy-disk/">💾 Floppy Disk</a>, perhaps as being inserted or ejected into a computer drive.

Commonly used to represent CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, and related film and music content, especially albums.

<a href="/google/android-7.0/dvd/">Google</a>, <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/dvd/">Microsoft</a>, <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/dvd/">Samsung</a>, and <a href="/softbank/2014/dvd/">Softbank&rsquo;s</a> designs were once labelled DVD, as to&nbsp;distinguish&nbsp;it from <a href="/optical-disk/">💿 Optical Disk</a>.

Film Frames

A classic film projector, as projects <a href="/film-frames/">film</a> onto a screen for viewing. Generally depicted as a black or gray projector with two mounted reels and lens pointed right.

Commonly used for various content concerning movies, film, and video as well as an icon for a video, as before an upload, link, or credit.

WhatsApp&rsquo;s design is green, while&nbsp;Google&rsquo;s was <a href="/google/android-8.0/film-projector/">previously</a>&nbsp;blue.

Film Projector

A board which contains the scene name, number, and film. A person ‘claps’ the board shut at the top while saying “Action” or “Cut” to indicate the start and stop of a scene that is being filmed.
This is used to synchronise the audio of the clap with the visuals.

Clapper Board

A classic television set, as people watched before streaming on flatscreens.&nbsp;Depicted in various colors and styles with a screen, knobs, and, on many platforms, rabbit-ear antennae.

Commonly used for television broadcasting as well as various content involving screens, from watching <a href="/movie-camera/">movies</a> to playing <a href="/video-game/">video games</a>.

Google&rsquo;s design <a href="/google/android-8.0/television/">previously</a> featured&nbsp;a more modern-looking orange TV.&nbsp;Apple&rsquo;s <a href="/apple/iphone-os-2.2/television/">first design</a> was yellow, while&nbsp;Microsoft&rsquo;s <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/television/">previous design</a> was a flatscreen.

Television

A classic camera, as an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-lens_reflex_camera">SLR</a>&nbsp;used to take pictures before <a href="/mobile-phone/">camera phones</a>. Generally depicted with a black and silver casing with lens and operating controls.

Samsung&rsquo;s is fitted with a <a href="/microphone/">microphone</a>. Google&rsquo;s design was <a href="/google/android-8.0/video-camera/">once&nbsp;blue</a> and also&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-7.0/video-camera/">previously featured</a> a flip screen.

Video Camera

A videotape cassette, as a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VHS">VHS</a> tape used to watch movies or record <a href="/television/">TV</a> on VCRs before <a href="/dvd/">DVDs</a> , DVRs, and streaming. Generally depicted as a black cassette with a white label between its reels.

Occasionally used for various content concerning film and video (taping) as well as an icon for a video, as before an upload, link, or credit. May also be used to represent audio <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassette_tape">cassette tapes</a>.

Microsoft&rsquo;s design <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/videocassette/">previously resembled</a> a voicemail icon.

Videocassette

An emoji representing the cinema: a&nbsp;large screen showing the latest movies, available to the public. Released in&nbsp;October&nbsp;2010, Unicode 6.0 was the first version of the Unicode Standard to support emoji.

Some characters in <a href="/unicode-5.2/">prior</a>&nbsp;versions of Unicode were retroactively updated to provide&nbsp;an emoji presentation. This release was the first to introduce new characters for the sole purpose of compatability with emojis being used in Japan.

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0">2014</a>, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms.
