Nauseated Face

A yellow face with slightly raised eyebrows, a frown, and eyes looking to the side. May convey a variety of negative emotions, including irritation, displeasure, grumpiness, and skepticism, as if giving the <a href="/eyes/">side-eye</a>.

Not to be confused with <a href="/smirking-face/">😏&nbsp;Smirking Face</a>, which features similar eyes but a wry smile.

Unamused Face

A yellow face with&nbsp;a small, closed mouth, flat or frowning, rolling its large, white eyes upwards. As with the gesture of an eye-roll, commonly conveys moderate disdain, disapproval, frustration, or boredom. Tone varies, including playful, sassy, resentful, and sarcastic, as if saying Yeah, whatever.

Samsung&#39;s design&nbsp;<a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/face-with-rolling-eyes/">previously depicted</a> a face smiling and looking to the side.

Face with Rolling Eyes

A yellow face wearing a white surgical mask, as used by <a href="/health-worker/">health workers</a> in <a href="/hospital/">hospitals</a>&nbsp;as well as the general public during a <a href="/coronavirus/">pandemic</a>. May be worn&nbsp;to avoid <a href="/face-with-thermometer/">sickness</a> or spreading airborne diseases.

Displayed with closed eyes on most platforms. Google,&nbsp;and WhatsApp show&nbsp;this emoji with neutral eyes.&nbsp;Apple changed this emoji to show with smiling eyes&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/mask-wearing-emoji-now-smiles/">in iOS 14.2 and above</a>, as did Microsoft in their <a href="/microsoft/windows-11-november-2021-update/">Windows 11 November 2021</a> update.

In 2020, this emoji became <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/spread-of-the-coronavirus-emoji/">primarily used</a> in reference to <a href="/coronavirus/">Coronavirus / COVID-19</a>.

Face with Medical Mask

A yellow face with raised or furrowed eyebrows and a <a href="/thermometer/">thermometer</a> in its mouth. Often depicted with red cheeks, as if feverish. May be used to represent a <a href="/hospital/">hospital</a> patient or person with a cold or flu.

Differs from other smileys conveying illness, such as <a href="/nauseated-face/">🤢 Nauseated Face</a> (appearing as if it&#39;s&nbsp;going to vomit) or <a href="/face-with-head-bandage/">🤕 Face With Head-Bandage</a> (physical injury).

Can also be used figuratively to express finding something &#39;hot&#39;, i.e. attractive or arousing.

Face with Thermometer

A yellow face with scrunched, X-shaped eyes spewing bright-green vomit. May represent physical illness or disgust, more intensely so than <a href="/nauseated-face/">🤢 Nauseated Face</a>.

Face with Open Mouth Vomiting

A yellow face with scrunched, X-shaped eyes sneezing or blowing its nose into a white tissue, as if from a cold or allergies. Often depicted with a crumpled-looking mouth.

May also represent someone in an emotional state wiping away tears, as at a <a href="/wedding/">wedding</a>.

Sneezing Face

A face with small, open eyes, open frown, raised eyebrows, and a pale blue forehead, as if experiencing a <a href="/cold-face/">cold</a> flash.

While intended to represent fear (less intense than <a href="/face-screaming-in-fear/">😱&nbsp;Face Screaming in Fear</a>), it also conveys a wide variety of emotions, including feeling amazed, shocked, sad, upset, and <a href="/cold-face/">cold</a>. Bears the same expression as <a href="/anguished-face/">😧&nbsp;Anguished Face</a> on most platforms.

Unlike other vendors, Huawei&#39;s design shows this emoji holding a hand over its mouth, albeit differently to&nbsp;<a href="/face-with-open-eyes-and-hand-over-mouth">🫢&nbsp;Face with Open Eyes and Hand Over Mouth</a>&nbsp;and <a href="/face-with-hand-over-mouth">🤭 Face with Hand Over Mouth</a>.&nbsp;Samsung&rsquo;s design previously showed upper teeth and tongue.

Fearful Face

A yellow face with closed eyes, frown, and a bead of sweat dripping from its forehead. Usually depicted with a single sweat bead on its right side, though Facebook and WhatsApp include the sweat bead on its left side.

Meaning widely varies, but commonly conveys a moderate degree of sadness, pain, frustration, or disappointment, similar to <a href="/crying-face/">😢&nbsp;Crying Face</a> and <a href="/sad-but-relieved-face/">😥&nbsp;Sad But Relieved Face</a>. Not to be confused with <a href="/grinning-face-with-sweat/">😅&nbsp;Grinning Face With Sweat</a> or other emojis with tear or sweat droplets.

Google&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-8.0/downcast-face-with-sweat/">previously featured</a> a blue face. Microsoft <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/downcast-face-with-sweat/">previously depicted</a> multiple beads of sweat from around the smiley&rsquo;s forehead. Earlier designs <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/downcast-face-with-sweat/">from Samsung</a> had more <a href="/pleading-face/">pleading</a> eyes.

Face with Cold Sweat

A yellow face with a frowning mouth and eyes and eyebrows scrunched downward in anger.

Conveys varying&nbsp;degrees of anger, from grumpiness and irritation to disgust and outrage. May also represent someone acting tough or being mean.

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0/angry-face/">previously featured</a> a reddish face with clenched teeth and wrinkled chin.&nbsp;Google&rsquo;s design also <a href="/google/android-9.0/angry-face/">previously featured</a>&nbsp;a reddish face, while Facebook&rsquo;s and Microsoft&#39;s <a href="/facebook/3.0/angry-face/">earlier</a> <a href="/microsoft/windows-8.1/angry-face/">designs</a>&nbsp;had&nbsp;clenched teeth.

Angry Face

The sour, yellow-colored citrus fruit of the lemon, usually with&nbsp;a stem and green leaf or leaves.

Spiked in use thanks to Beyonc&eacute;&rsquo;s 2016 album,&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemonade_%28Beyoncé_album%29">Lemonade</a>.

Lemon

A common green apple, tarter counterpart to the&nbsp;<a href="/red-apple/">Red Apple</a>.&nbsp;Displayed with a stem and single, green leaf on major platforms.

Green Apple

A place where people are taken to receive medical care. This hospital has a large red cross on the front, often used as a symbol for health care.

An ambulance, used to transport <a href="/face-with-medical-mask/" title="😷 Face With Medical Mask">patients</a> between their <a href="/house/" title="🏠 House Building">home</a> and the <a href="/hospital/" title="🏥 Hospital">hospital</a>.

A closed, green, hardcover book. Commonly used for various content concerning reading, writing, learning, and schooling. May also be used as a green accent color.

Green Book

A white toilet, as used to deposit a <a href="/pile-of-poo/">💩&nbsp;Pile of Poo</a>. (Don&rsquo;t forget the <a href="/roll-of-paper/">🧻&nbsp;Roll of Paper</a>.) Most platforms depict a porcelain toilet in profile, bowl facing to the left.

Commonly used for various content concerning going to the bathroom or bathrooms more generally. May also be used figuratively, e.g., down the toilet.

Google, Microsoft, and Twitter&rsquo;s designs left the seat up.

Toilet

A blue or green bucket or pail. Used to talk about real or metaphorical buckets.

May be used to talk about bucket lists, kicking the bucket, making baskets in basketball, an abundance of something (like rain or money),&nbsp;and many other contexts.

The Unicode Consortium accepted the following emoji 72 emojis&nbsp;for Unicode 9.0. This update&nbsp;was released&nbsp;on June 21, 2016. Most vendors added support for this update within the 2016 calendar year.&nbsp;<a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/unicode-9-0-released-with-72-new-emojis/">Sample images and more about Unicode 9.0</a>.

<a href="/emoji-4.0/">Emoji 4.0</a> was published in late 2016, which added additional emoji professions.

<h2>New in Unicode 9</h2>

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0">2014</a>, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms. Samsung Emoji List — Emojis for Samsung Galaxy, Galaxy Note, and Galaxy Z Fold [Updated 2024]

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 28 March 2024, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.1&nbsp;revised a considerable number of previously available emoji designs.

Many emojis had subtle modifications made to their outline, contrast, and shading, including the majority of&nbsp;<a href="/people">🧑 People</a> emojis. Meanwhile, many emojis within&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href="/travel-places">🚀 Travel &amp; Places</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/objects">💡 Objects</a> categories were given more extensive redesigns.&nbsp;

One UI 6.1

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 30&nbsp;October 2023, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.0&nbsp;featured a completely new design style for the majority of the vendor&#39;s emojis.

All smiley, food, and animal emoji designs have been revised in this update, as have the majority of the people emojis.

This is the most significant revision of the vendor&#39;s emoji set since&nbsp;February 2018&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/samsung/experience-9.0">Experience 9.0</a> update, which introduced a significant number of design revisions that were consistent with those used on other platforms.

This update also introduced support for the 2023 <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a> recommendation list.
