A church building, generally associated with Christian denominations. In addition quiet&nbsp;<a href="/folded-hands/" title="🙏 Person With Folded Hands">prayer</a>, churches hold regular&nbsp;<a href="/raising-hands/" title="🙌 Person Raising Both Hands In Celebration">worship</a> services, <a href="/wedding/" title="💒 Wedding">weddings</a>, <a href="/baby/" title="👶 Baby">baptisms</a> and funerals.

Church

A mosque building, a place of worship for followers of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam">Islam</a>. Shown with a domed roof and a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minaret">minaret</a>.

Mosque

A shrine used for the Japanese Shinto religion. This emoji generally displays the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torii">torii</a>, which is the gate to the Shinto Shrine. The torii is generally a&nbsp;red colored structure, with a curved roof section above two posts.

This icon is used on maps in Japan to represent the location of a Shinto Shrine, similar to how the <a href="/hot-springs/" title="♨️ Hot Springs">hot springs emoji</a> is the icon used on Japanese maps to show the location of an onsen.

Shinto Shrine

A cube-shaped building located at the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaaba">centre</a> of the Al-Masjid al-Haram <a href="/mosque/" title="🕌 Mosque">Mosque</a> in Mecca.

Kaaba

A string of beads, as used in prayer or&nbsp;meditation&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_beads">in many religious traditions</a>. Generally depicted as red, wooden beads with a gold, decorative center bead and tassel.

Commonly used to represent various religious sentiments, jewelry, and magic.

Samsung&nbsp;<a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/prayer-beads/">previously featured</a> a <a href="/latin-cross/">Latin cross</a>, suggesting a Christian&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosary">rosary</a>, though now joins other vendor designs in resembling an Islamic <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misbaha">misbaha</a> or Buddhist <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhist_prayer_beads">mala</a>.

Prayer Beads

A burning candle, as lit when taking a <a href="/person-taking-bath/">bath</a> or the power is out. Depicted as a white, pillar-shaped candle with a <a href="/fire/">flame</a> and wax dripping down its sides.

Used for a wide array of content, such as various senses of light, <a href="/birthday/">birthdays</a>, remembrance, relaxation, and topics concerning <a href="/christmas">Christmas</a>, religion and <a href="/halloween/">Halloween</a>. Notably featured in the <a href="https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/summoning-circle">Summoning Circle</a> meme on Twitter.

Apple&#39;s&nbsp;candle&nbsp;is in a silver holder. Samsung&rsquo;s candle was <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.0/candle/">previously pink</a>, perhaps as in a <a href="/birthday-cake/">birthday cake</a>.

Candle

An ancient scroll, unrolled to reveal text on <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papyrus">papyrus</a> or parchment paper. May be used to represent the study of history or official documents, such as a diploma.

Many platforms indicate text with dark lines. WhatsApp&rsquo;s design includes wooden rollers. Apple&rsquo;s design features an easter egg, script of text from its 1997&ndash;2002 <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Think_Different">Crazy Ones/Think Different</a> ad campaign:

A building used for worship by people of any faith or religion. Examples include a <a href="/church/" title="⛪ Church">church</a>, <a href="/mosque/" title="🕌 Mosque">mosque</a>, or <a href="/synagogue/" title="🕍 Synagogue">synagogue</a>. A person is shown on their knees praying, in this symbol.

Multi-faith places of worship are commonly found at <a href="/airplane/" title="✈️ Airplane">airports</a>.

The Unicode Consortium has approved the following 41 emoji characters as part of <a href="http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode8.0.0/">Unicode 8.0</a>, released on June 17, 2015. Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0">2014</a>, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms. Samsung Emoji List — Emojis for Samsung Galaxy, Galaxy Note, and Galaxy Z Fold [Updated 2024]

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 28 March 2024, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.1&nbsp;revised a considerable number of previously available emoji designs.

Many emojis had subtle modifications made to their outline, contrast, and shading, including the majority of&nbsp;<a href="/people">🧑 People</a> emojis. Meanwhile, many emojis within&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href="/travel-places">🚀 Travel &amp; Places</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/objects">💡 Objects</a> categories were given more extensive redesigns.&nbsp;

One UI 6.1

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 30&nbsp;October 2023, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.0&nbsp;featured a completely new design style for the majority of the vendor&#39;s emojis.

All smiley, food, and animal emoji designs have been revised in this update, as have the majority of the people emojis.

This is the most significant revision of the vendor&#39;s emoji set since&nbsp;February 2018&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/samsung/experience-9.0">Experience 9.0</a> update, which introduced a significant number of design revisions that were consistent with those used on other platforms.

This update also introduced support for the 2023 <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a> recommendation list.

One UI 6.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from October 2022, Samsung&#39;s One UI 5.0 provided support for both&nbsp;2021&#39;s <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> and 2022&#39;s <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.0/">Emoji 15.0</a>&nbsp;recommendations.

Prior to the release of One UI 5.0, many Samsung users may have seen support for <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;emojis provided via <a href="/google/">Google&#39;s emoji design set</a>. This was due to Google&#39;s expansion of&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>&nbsp;in 2021.

A select number of users also reported seeing <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;designs in Samsung&#39;s emoji font when updating to One UI 4.1.1 in September 2022.

One UI 5.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from&nbsp;mid-January 2022, this small emoji updated changed the design of Samsung&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="/sparkles/">✨ Sparkles</a> emoji to be more consistent&nbsp;with those of other emoji vendors.

Additional devices received this emoji update alongside Samsung&#39;s&nbsp;One UI 4.1 update, which was made widely available in March 2022 after initially debuting with the Galaxy S22 series of devices a month earlier.

One UI 4.0 January 2022

Beginning its rollout on&nbsp;2021-11-15 for Samsung&#39;s Galaxy S21 series of mobile devices,&nbsp;Samsung One UI 4.0&nbsp;added support for <a href="/emoji-13.1/">Emoji 13.1</a>.

One UI 4.0

Beginning its rollout in late July 2021 to select Samsung&rsquo;s Galaxy Z devices, One UI 3.1.1 updated a small number of existing emoji designs.

Select devices running Samsung One UI 3.1 were also given this emoji update&nbsp;via a firmware update in August 2021.
