Face Exhaling

A yellow face with raised eyebrows, enlarged eyes, slight frown, and long nose,&nbsp;indicating&nbsp;it&rsquo;s telling a lie in the manner of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinocchio">Pinocchio</a>. Like that character, Facebook&#39;s design features a wooden nose.&nbsp;

May represent lying, a liar, and other concepts of deceit and dishonesty to varying degrees of intensity. Sometimes used to convey disbelief (e.g., You must be kidding) or feeling abashed (e.g., as if&nbsp;caught in the act of lying).

Lying Face

A yellow face with soft, closed eyes, raised eyebrows, and a slight smile. Facebook&rsquo;s design features a slightly open mouth, as if&nbsp;sighing.

Conveys various pleasant feelings, including&nbsp;contentment, calm, peace, and&nbsp;relief. May also convey feelings of happiness or good-natured humor more generally.

A pensive, remorseful face. Saddened by life. Quietly considering where things all went wrong.&nbsp;Depicted as a yellow face with sad, closed eyes, furrowed eyebrows, and a slight, flat mouth.

May convey a variety of sad emotions, including feeling disappointed, hurt, or lonely. Less intense than other sad emojis like <a href="/loudly-crying-face/">😭&nbsp;Loudly Crying Face</a> and more introspective.

Microsoft&#39;s design&nbsp;<a href="/microsoft/windows-10/pensive-face/">previously featured</a> a more neutral, bored expression. Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.0/pensive-face/">previously looked</a> more guilty or worried.&nbsp;Not to be confused with <a href="/relieved-face/">😌&nbsp;Relieved Face</a>, which has similarly shaped eyes but in a happier expression.

Pensive Face

A yellow face with open eyes, raised or furrowed eyebrows, and a broad frown.&nbsp;May convey a variety of moderately sad or tense emotions, including concern, anxiety, alarm, disappointment, and unhappiness.&nbsp;

Apple&rsquo;s design features the same eye expression as on its <a href="/hushed-face/">😯&nbsp;Hushed Face</a>. Not to be confused with <a href="/astonished-face/">😲 &nbsp;Astonished Face</a> or <a href="/dizzy-face/">😵&nbsp;Dizzy Face</a>.&nbsp;

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/worried-face/">previously included</a> sweat droplets coming from its cheeks, a shorthand for anxiety in manga and anime.

Worried Face

A yellow face with simple, open eyes and a slight frown. Often conveys a mild degree of concern, disappointment, or sadness, but usually&nbsp;less intensely&nbsp;than <a href="/frowning-face/">☹️&nbsp;Frowning Face</a>.

Slightly Frowning Face

A classic sad face. A yellow face with&nbsp;simple, open eyes and wide, steep frown. May convey such feelings as moderate concern or disappointment and affectionate sadness, as when missing a loved one. Its sentiment is usually more intense than <a href="/slightly-frowning-face/">🙁&nbsp;Slightly Frowning Face</a>, which has a smaller frown.

This smiley predates Unicode emoji support. In its Unicode name of White Frowning Face, white&nbsp;does not refer to skin tone or ethnicity, although&nbsp;Samsung&rsquo;s <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.0/frowning-face/">early designs</a>&nbsp;colored the face white.&nbsp;See the glossary for the&nbsp;term&nbsp;<a href="/glossary/#white" title="📖 Glossary">white</a>&nbsp;in Unicode character names.

White Frowning Face

Intended to depict such feelings as&nbsp;embarrassment, but meaning very widely varies. Other senses include flattery, surprise, disbelief, admiration, affection, and excitement.

Google&#39;s design <a href="/google/android-4.4/flushed-face/">previously featured</a> a more bashful expression and <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.0/flushed-face/">Samsung</a>, a more ashamed one. An <a href="/microsoft/windows-8.1/flushed-face/">early Microsoft design</a> featured an awkward smile.

Flushed Face

A yellow face with furrowed eyebrows, a small frown, and large, &ldquo;puppy dog&rdquo; eyes, as if begging, pleading, or yearning (possibly even in a&nbsp;<a href="/nsfw">NSFW</a> manner, depending on the context). May also represent adoration or feeling touched&nbsp;by a loving gesture.

Huawei&#39;s design for this emoji includes a pair of&nbsp;<a href="/folded-hands">🙏 Folded Hands</a>.

At its peak the Pleading Face was&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/a-new-king-pleading-face/">the&nbsp;third most popular emoji used on Twitter</a>, and was the most commonly found emoji <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/what-every-heart-emoji-really-means/">in tweets that include hearts</a>. Used in sequence with pointing hands to indicate a bashful or shy pose (🥺👉👈)&nbsp;<a href="/tiktok/">particularly on TikTok</a>.

Anguished Face

Loudly Crying Face

A yellow face with closed eyes, frown, and a bead of sweat dripping from its forehead. Usually depicted with a single sweat bead on its right side, though Facebook and WhatsApp include the sweat bead on its left side.

Meaning widely varies, but commonly conveys a moderate degree of sadness, pain, frustration, or disappointment, similar to <a href="/crying-face/">😢&nbsp;Crying Face</a> and <a href="/sad-but-relieved-face/">😥&nbsp;Sad But Relieved Face</a>. Not to be confused with <a href="/grinning-face-with-sweat/">😅&nbsp;Grinning Face With Sweat</a> or other emojis with tear or sweat droplets.

Google&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-8.0/downcast-face-with-sweat/">previously featured</a> a blue face. Microsoft <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/downcast-face-with-sweat/">previously depicted</a> multiple beads of sweat from around the smiley&rsquo;s forehead. Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.
