<a href="/nerd-face/">🤓&nbsp;Nerd Face</a> wears similarly shaped <a href="/glasses/">eyeglasses</a>.

On <a href="/snapchat/">Snapchat</a>, this emoji next to a contact denotes that you have best friends in common with this person.

Smiling Face with Sunglasses

A gesture showing the index finger and&nbsp;thumb touching&nbsp;to make an open circle. Represents &ldquo;I&rsquo;m okay&rdquo; or &ldquo;yes, that&rsquo;s correct / good&rdquo;.

In American Sign Language (ASL), the number nine is represented with this gesture. The same hand sign can be seen as offensive in some cultures, including in parts of Europe, the Middle East, and South America.

This can also be used as&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/no-the-ok-hand-is-not-a-symbol-of-white-power/">a&nbsp;symbol of White Supremacy</a>, depending on context.

OK Hand Sign

An emoji showing the fingers held together in a vertical orientation, often referred to as the Italian hand gesture ma che vuoi, sometimes called the &quot;finger purse.&quot;&nbsp;In Italy this gesture tends to be used in disagreement, frustration, or disbelief and can mean &ldquo;What do you want?&rdquo; or &ldquo;What are you saying?&rdquo; Outside Italy anyone performing a caricature of an Italian person, regardless of context or tone, might use this gesture.

Pinched Fingers has a variety of other culturally specific uses. In Israeli culture it can mean &ldquo;hold on,&rdquo; &ldquo;relax,&rdquo; or &ldquo;be patient.&rdquo; The K-Pop star <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwon_Yu-ri">Yuri</a> uses it as a signature gesture to represent a <a href="/dumpling/">dumpling</a> and a general warm sentiment. It can also be used to represent the act of <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisting">fisting</a>.

Not to be confused with <a href="/pinching-hand/">🤏 Pinching Hand</a>, which has overlapping senses. Both are used to represent <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/the-pinching-hand-emoji-is-a-lot/">precision</a> when someone is making a sharp point with accompanying speech.

Pinched Fingers

Most commonly known as a ✌️&nbsp;Peace Sign, but traditionally called&nbsp;as a Victory Hand.&nbsp;Two&nbsp;fingers held up on one hand making a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_sign">V sign</a>.

The reverse of this symbol is considered an offence gesture in <a href="/flag-united-kingdom/" title="🇬🇧 Flag For United Kingdom">British</a> culture, similar to giving the <a href="/middle-finger/" title="🖕 Reversed Hand With Middle Finger Extended">middle finger</a>.

Victory Hand

A&nbsp;fingers crossed emoji which&nbsp;displays&nbsp;the&nbsp;index (first) finger crossed over the&nbsp;middle (second)&nbsp;finger. Commonly used as a gesture indicating&nbsp;luck, or to show&nbsp;desire of a favorable outcome.

This emoji was <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/crossed-fingers/">previously</a> displayed with an additional finger on Samsung devices.

Hand with Index and Middle Fingers Crossed

The gesture for&nbsp;&ldquo;I love you&rdquo;&nbsp;in American Sign Language, shown as a raised pinky (little) finger, index finger, and an extended thumb.

I Love You Hand Sign

A &quot;rock on&quot;&nbsp;hand gesture raising the pinky and index fingers on one hand, which a variety of other&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sign_of_the_horns">meanings</a>.

Sign of the Horns

A hand with thumb and&nbsp;little (pinky) finger extended, making a traditional&nbsp;<a href="/telephone-receiver/" title="📞 Telephone Receiver">phone</a>-like shape.&nbsp;May be used in conjunction with a face to suggest&nbsp;&ldquo;call me&rdquo; (please).

Not to be confused with the <a href="/sign-of-the-horns/" title="🤘 Sign Of The Horns">sign of the horn</a>. Commonly used as a&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaka_sign">shaka sign</a>, which is a similar gesture at a different orientation.

Call Me Hand

A hand holding a <a href="/pen/" title="🖊 Lower Left Ballpoint Pen">pen</a> or <a href="/pencil/" title="✏️ Pencil">pencil</a> and writing. Most often shown as holding either a blue or black pen, though Microsoft&#39;s design has a red pen. LG&#39;s design displays a left hand, while all other platforms show&nbsp;a right hand. Used broadly to represent writing.

Also used between words to show that a lesson is being learned and to indicate someone is taking notes. For example, ✍️look✍️both✍️ways✍️before✍️you✍️cross✍️the✍️street. This use&nbsp;was popularized in <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/what-happens-in-the-tiktok-comments/">TikTok comments</a>. It uses the established practice of placing emojis between words for emphasis. Possibly influenced by the emphatic use of <a href="/clapping-hands/">👏 Clapping Hands</a>, which reflects speech-gesture pairings in Black English in the United States.

Writing Hand

The fleshy, pinkish-orange fruit of the fuzzy peach, shown with green leaves and sometimes a stem.

Thanks to its distinctive cleft, the emoji is most&nbsp;<a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/how-we-really-use-the-peach/">commonly used</a> for &ldquo;buttocks.&rdquo; In certain contexts, the <a href="https://slate.com/technology/2019/09/peach-emoji-meaning-butt-impeachment.html">peach emoji may refer to&nbsp;impeachment</a>.

In 2016 Apple unveiled a <a href="https://x.com/Emojipedia/status/799291515285610500">new design</a> for the peach emoji during the iOS 10.2 beta period. This change would have deemphasized its&nbsp;distinctive cleft, leading to criticism from Apple users. Ultimately this change was not implemented.

Peach

A long, bulbous, bright purple eggplant, or aubergine in British English, shown with a leafy stem. Considered lucky in Japan to dream of an eggplant the&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatsuyume">first night of the New Year</a>.&nbsp;

Widely used to represent a penis. Due to its phallic use, the hashtag&nbsp;<a href="https://instagram.com/explore/tags/🍆/" title="Browse #🍆 on Instagram">#🍆</a>&nbsp;was&nbsp;once&nbsp;banned (2015) on Instagram&#39;s search function.

Aubergine

A prawn or shrimp breaded and deep-fried golden-brown. Known as&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fried_prawn">ebi furai</a>&nbsp;in Japan but commonly called shrimp&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempura">tempura</a>&nbsp;and served in a&nbsp;<a href="/bento-box/" title="🍱 Bento Box">bento box</a>. Not to be confused with the&nbsp;<a href="/shrimp/">Shrimp</a>.

Fried Shrimp

A crab, a squat crustacean with pincers. Depicted as a reddish-orange crab (as cooked) shown from above, with a round, shelled body, shorted, tentacle-like eyes, and ten legs, the top two of which are large pincers.

May be used to represent crab as food or metaphorical senses of crab (e.g., crabby). Often used to represent <a href="/cancer/">♋ Cancer</a>, the Crab, in the Western zodiac.

Not to be confused with <a href="/lobster/">🦞 Lobster</a>.

Facebook&rsquo;s pincers have black tips, as do&nbsp;Huawei&#39;s.

Crab

A lobster, a large crustacean with a prominent tail and pincers. Depicted as a reddish-orange lobster (as cooked) from above, with a long body and tail, short, tentacle-like eyes, and ten legs, the top of which are very large pincers.

Often used to represent lobster as food as well as in connection to the US state of Maine.

In its release year of 2018, Emojipedia&rsquo;s original sample image was criticized as anatomically incorrect but was shortly after <a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/skateboard-dna-and-lobster-updated/">resolved</a>. That year, the transgender community <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/trans-activists-lobster-emoji-flag-charlie-craggs-unicode-nail-it-a8474476.html">embraced</a> the lobster as a symbol for their efforts for <a href="/transgender-flag/">Transgender Flag</a>&nbsp;emoji.

Samsung, WhatsApp, and Facebook&rsquo;s lobsters are depicted at an angle.

Sunglasses that can be worn outside for protection from the sun. Often association with connotations of being &quot;cool&quot;, or leisurely in sunny places.

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0">2014</a>, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms.
