Department Store

A suitcase or bag, as used for traveling. Most platforms depict gray or blue rolling luggage with an extended handle. Commonly used for various content concerning traveling or taking trips, whether for business or leisure.

Apple&rsquo;s design features an old-fashioned, leather, trunk-styled case with graphic <a href="https://www.citylab.com/design/2013/05/lost-art-luggage-labels/5652/">luggage labels</a>/stickers, not to be confused with <a href="/briefcase/">💼&nbsp;Briefcase</a> or <a href="/handbag/">👜&nbsp;Handbag</a>. Google and Facebook also include such stickers.

May be stored in a <a href="/left-luggage/">🛅 Coin Locker</a> or inspected at <a href="/customs/">🛃&nbsp;Customs</a>.

Luggage

A bag or purse, used to carry personal items, often doubling as a fashion accessory.

The design of this emoji varies, with most platforms opting for leather-looking styles in brown or orange. Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/handbag/">used to be pink</a>, but is now light brown. Twitter&rsquo;s purple design stands out among the other platforms.

Not to be confused with the smaller and handleless pouch emoji sometimes referred to as <a href="/clutch-bag/">👝 Clutch Bag</a>.

Handbag

A small pouch, somewhere between the size of a <a title="👜 Handbag" href="/handbag/">handbag</a>, and a <a title="👛 Purse" href="/purse/">purse</a>.

Two colorful shopping bags, as contain&nbsp;consumer items bought at a <a href="/department-store/">department store</a>. Depicted as gift bags in various bright colors, patterns, sizes, and positions across platforms. Apple&#39;s design, for instance, features a pink bag with light-pink dots in front of a gold bag with yellow stripes.

Commonly used for various content concerning retail shopping, stores, goods, and <a href="/wrapped-gift/">gifts or presents</a>. May also convey a sense of indulgence or self-care, &agrave; la retail therapy.

Microsoft&rsquo;s design <a href="/microsoft/windows-10-anniversary-update/shopping-bags/">previously</a> included&nbsp;tissue paper, and was depicted as&nbsp;a <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/shopping-bags/">bag of groceries</a> prior to that.

Shopping Bags

A school bag Emoji (also called a satchel) used by children attending school to carry books, lunch, and other personal belongings.

Lipstick&nbsp;shown with&nbsp;the lid removed. Displays in a shade of red on most platforms, except WhatsApp and Twitter which have a more&nbsp;a pinkish color.

Apple&rsquo;s coin has the text&nbsp;&quot;The Crazy Ones,&quot;&nbsp;a reference to&nbsp;its 1997&ndash;2002&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Think_different">Crazy Ones/Think Different</a>&nbsp;ad campaign and&nbsp;commonly used as placeholder text in Apple icons and emoji designs.

Released in&nbsp;October&nbsp;2010, Unicode 6.0 was the first version of the <a href="/the-unicode-consortium">Unicode Standard</a> to support emoji.

Some characters in <a href="/unicode-5.2/">prior</a>&nbsp;versions of Unicode were retroactively updated to provide&nbsp;an emoji presentation. This release was the first to introduce new characters for the sole purpose of compatability with emojis being used in Japan.

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Samsung Emoji List — Emojis for Samsung Galaxy, Galaxy Note, and Galaxy Z Fold [Updated 2024]

First released in July 2024 for Samsung&#39;s Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 devices, the&nbsp;One UI 6.1.1&nbsp;began its broader rollout in early September 2024.

This update revised the designs of every&nbsp;<a href="/flags">🎌 Flag</a> emoji and various emojis from the&nbsp;<a href="/objects">💡 Objects</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/symbols">💕 Symbols</a>&nbsp;categories.

One UI 6.1.1

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 28 March 2024, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.1&nbsp;revised a considerable number of previously available emoji designs.

Many emojis had subtle modifications made to their outline, contrast, and shading, including the majority of&nbsp;<a href="/people">🧑 People</a> emojis. Meanwhile, many emojis within&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href="/travel-places">🚀 Travel &amp; Places</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/objects">💡 Objects</a> categories were given more extensive redesigns.&nbsp;

One UI 6.1

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 30&nbsp;October 2023, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.0&nbsp;featured a completely new design style for the majority of the vendor&#39;s emojis.

All smiley, food, and animal emoji designs have been revised in this update, as have the majority of the people emojis.

This is the most significant revision of the vendor&#39;s emoji set since&nbsp;February 2018&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/samsung/experience-9.0">Experience 9.0</a> update, which introduced a significant number of design revisions that were consistent with those used on other platforms.

This update also introduced support for the 2023 <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a> recommendation list.

One UI 6.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from October 2022, Samsung&#39;s One UI 5.0 provided support for both&nbsp;2021&#39;s <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> and 2022&#39;s <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.0/">Emoji 15.0</a>&nbsp;recommendations.

Prior to the release of One UI 5.0, many Samsung users may have seen support for <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;emojis provided via <a href="/google/">Google&#39;s emoji design set</a>. This was due to Google&#39;s expansion of&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>&nbsp;in 2021.

A select number of users also reported seeing <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;designs in Samsung&#39;s emoji font when updating to One UI 4.1.1 in September 2022.

One UI 5.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from&nbsp;mid-January 2022, this small emoji updated changed the design of Samsung&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="/sparkles/">✨ Sparkles</a> emoji to be more consistent&nbsp;with those of other emoji vendors.

Additional devices received this emoji update alongside Samsung&#39;s&nbsp;One UI 4.1 update, which was made widely available in March 2022 after initially debuting with the Galaxy S22 series of devices a month earlier.
