Flags

A postal horn (post horn). Depicted as a coiled, valveless, brass horn, like a bugle or <a href="/trumpet/">trumpet</a>, with two red tassels. Sometimes used to mark announcements as well as for various content concerning brass instruments, music, or mail.

In the 18&ndash;19th centuries, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_horn">post horns</a> signaled the arrival of and cleared the way for mail coaches, like a modern-day&nbsp;<a href="/police-car-light/">siren</a>. Used today as a symbol on <a href="/postbox/">postboxes</a> (mailboxes) and by many European postal services, as seen featured in <a href="/post-office/">🏤 European Post Office</a>.

Microsoft&#39;s design <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/japanese-post-office/">previously</a>&nbsp;displayed this mark on its own&nbsp;instead of being featured on the building.

Facebook&rsquo;s designs feature a yellow envelope angled forward and trailed by three, blue lines, indicating sending. Microsoft&rsquo;s design <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/envelope-with-arrow/">previously resembled</a> an <a href="/incoming-envelope/">incoming envelope</a>. <a href="/apple/iphone-os-2.2/envelope-with-arrow/">Early designs from Apple</a> featured a right arrow with the envelope oriented lengthwise. Google&#39;s envelope design was <a href="/google/android-8.0/envelope-with-arrow/">previously</a> yellow. SoftBank <a href="/envelope-with-arrow/">originally animated</a> a rightward-moving arrow and envelope, suggesting sending or sent.&nbsp;

Released in&nbsp;October&nbsp;2010, Unicode 6.0 was the first version of the <a href="/the-unicode-consortium">Unicode Standard</a> to support emoji.

Some characters in <a href="/unicode-5.2/">prior</a>&nbsp;versions of Unicode were retroactively updated to provide&nbsp;an emoji presentation. This release was the first to introduce new characters for the sole purpose of compatability with emojis being used in Japan.

Samsung devices use <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsungs-emoji-suite-makes-for-a-more-emotional-digital-world">their own emoji designs</a>&nbsp;which are different to those used on other <a href="/google/">Android devices</a>. These&nbsp;glossy emojis&nbsp;appear on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series and are updated as part of the Samsung One UI interface layer (previously Samsung Experience, before that Samsung TouchWiz)&nbsp;which runs on top of Android.

Note that Samsung users may see select emojis display as their <a href="/google/">Google</a>&nbsp;set design. This is due to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>, which will display a Google emoji design within an app or web platform&nbsp;when a Samsung device has not yet been updated to support that particular emoji.

Since the introduction of Samsung&#39;s emoji set in <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0">2014</a>, various Unicode characters that have not been recommended to have emoji presentation have nevertheless been given a colorful emoji design on Samsung platforms. Samsung Emoji List — Emojis for Samsung Galaxy, Galaxy Note, and Galaxy Z Fold [Updated 2024]

First released in July 2024 for Samsung&#39;s Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 devices, the&nbsp;One UI 6.1.1&nbsp;began its broader rollout in early September 2024.

This update revised the designs of every&nbsp;<a href="/flags">🎌 Flag</a> emoji and various emojis from the&nbsp;<a href="/objects">💡 Objects</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/symbols">💕 Symbols</a>&nbsp;categories.

One UI 6.1.1

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 28 March 2024, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.1&nbsp;revised a considerable number of previously available emoji designs.

Many emojis had subtle modifications made to their outline, contrast, and shading, including the majority of&nbsp;<a href="/people">🧑 People</a> emojis. Meanwhile, many emojis within&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href="/travel-places">🚀 Travel &amp; Places</a> and&nbsp;<a href="/objects">💡 Objects</a> categories were given more extensive redesigns.&nbsp;

One UI 6.1

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices on 30&nbsp;October 2023, Samsung&#39;s One UI 6.0&nbsp;featured a completely new design style for the majority of the vendor&#39;s emojis.

All smiley, food, and animal emoji designs have been revised in this update, as have the majority of the people emojis.

This is the most significant revision of the vendor&#39;s emoji set since&nbsp;February 2018&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="https://emojipedia.org/samsung/experience-9.0">Experience 9.0</a> update, which introduced a significant number of design revisions that were consistent with those used on other platforms.

This update also introduced support for the 2023 <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.1">Emoji 15.1</a> recommendation list.

One UI 6.0

Beginning its rollout for select Samsung devices from October 2022, Samsung&#39;s One UI 5.0 provided support for both&nbsp;2021&#39;s <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> and 2022&#39;s <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-15.0/">Emoji 15.0</a>&nbsp;recommendations.

Prior to the release of One UI 5.0, many Samsung users may have seen support for <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;emojis provided via <a href="/google/">Google&#39;s emoji design set</a>. This was due to Google&#39;s expansion of&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/faster-emoji-updates-on-the-way-for-android-apps/">Android AppCompat</a>&nbsp;in 2021.

A select number of users also reported seeing <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>&nbsp;designs in Samsung&#39;s emoji font when updating to One UI 4.1.1 in September 2022.
