Most platforms depict a nondescript masthead, images, and columns of text. Apple&rsquo;s newspaper is called The Apple Times, featuring a logo based on its&nbsp;<a href="/eagle/">🦅 Eagle</a> and a picture of its <a href="/volcano/">🌋 Volcano</a>. Facebook&rsquo;s is called Daily Feed, with a headline &ldquo;El Capitan&rdquo; and picture of that famous <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Capitan">rock formation in Yosemite National Park</a>. WhatsApp&rsquo;s paper reads Daily News with a picture of a <a href="/world-map/">map</a>.

Newspaper

A wastebasket, as used to discard trash in an office. Generally depicted as a silver, wire-mesh container. Also known as a wastepaper basket, trash/garbage can, or rubbish bin.

Commonly used for various content concerning literal and figurative waste. May also be used in the context of <a href="/basketball/">basketball</a>. Sometimes paired with <a href="/fire/">🔥&nbsp;Fire</a> as a <a href="https://www.americandialect.org/dumpster-fire-is-2016-american-dialect-society-word-of-the-year">visual representation</a> of the slang expression dumpster fire (&quot;chatoic situation&quot;).

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/wastebasket/">previously depicted</a>&nbsp;a&nbsp;metal can/bin with a lid, as used for outdoor garbage&mdash;or lived in by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_the_Grouch">Oscar the Grouch</a>. Wastebasket

<a href="/au-kddi/type-a-2/mobile-phone/">Early designs</a> for the mobile phone emoji from au by KDDI resembled a traditional&nbsp;<a href="/telephone-receiver/">telephone receiver</a>, and vice versa, before having their codepoints swapped in later releases.

Television

A graph showing a red (or sometimes green) trend line increasing over time, as stock prices or revenues. Commonly used to represent various types of increase, from numerical data to being metaphorically on the rise. May also represent trending content as well as facts, figures, and charts more generally.

Note: red is used to <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/why-does-the-chart-increasing-emoji-show-in-red/">represent increases in stock prices in Japan</a>, where this emoji originates.

Chart with Upwards Trend

A graph showing a colored trend line, often blue, decreasing over time, as stock prices or revenues. Commonly used to represent various types of decrease, from numeral data to being metaphorically down. May also represent facts, figures, and charts more generally.

WhatsApp&rsquo;s line is red, while&nbsp;Facebook&rsquo;s orange. Google&rsquo;s line was <a href="/google/android-12.0/chart-decreasing/">previously</a> green.

While many western countries use red to indicate a negative result, Japan and other south east Asian countries <a href="/chart-increasing/">use red in a positive context</a>.

Distinct from an apartment building due to its detached form, this house is likely in the suburbs of a city or a&nbsp;rural area.

A white toilet, as used to deposit a <a href="/pile-of-poo/">💩&nbsp;Pile of Poo</a>. (Don&rsquo;t forget the <a href="/roll-of-paper/">🧻&nbsp;Roll of Paper</a>.) Most platforms depict a porcelain toilet in profile, bowl facing to the left.

Commonly used for various content concerning going to the bathroom or bathrooms more generally. May also be used figuratively, e.g., down the toilet.

The Unicode Consortium approved the following characters as part of <a href="http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode7.0.0/">Unicode 7.0</a>, released on June 16, 2014.&nbsp;Support for these emoji characters rely on updates from platform vendors such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

Initially, 250&nbsp;new characters in Unicode 7.0 were approved for emoji presentation, however this was later reduced to 103 Standard Additions which are listed below. The other characters remain part of Unicode, but are not recommended&nbsp;to be included as emojis.

The exception to this was the <a href="/left-speech-bubble/" title="🗨 Left Speech Bubble">Left Speech Bubble</a>, and as such wasn&#39;t initially specified on other platforms as an emoji. A later-accepted&nbsp;<a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/diverse-spy-proposal/">proposal</a>&nbsp;updated this.

South Korean financial technology company Toss (토스) provides its own emoji design set within its mobile application. The design set, entitled Toss Face (토스페이스), has also been made available as a free font file for Apple devices.

First launched in early 2022, the Toss Face emoji set originally included a series of intentionally divergent emoji designs compared to those of other vendors.

The majority of these divergent designs followed two broad themes. Firstly,&nbsp;rendering culturally-specific Japanese emojis with designs representing related South Korean concepts (e.g. the <a href="/sake/">🍶 Sake</a> emoji appearing as <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makgeolli">makgeolli</a>).

Secondly, emojis&nbsp;representing older technologies with designs representing more contemporary innovations. (e.g. <a href="/pager/">📟 Pager</a> displaying as instant messaging speech bubbles; <a href="/auto-rickshaw/">🛺 Auto Rickshaw</a> being displyed as a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unmanned_aerial_vehicle">drone</a>).

In March 2022 these divergent designs were updated to accurately reflect Unicode&#39;s recommendations. In April 2022 they were re-added to the Toss app using <a href="https://emojipedia.org/glossary/">Private Use Area</a> codepoints.&nbsp;

Released 2022-08-16, this Toss Face emoji update&nbsp;added support for <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> and updated several existing emoji designs&nbsp;to better match those of other vendors.

The update also re-introduced a series of&nbsp;Korean-oriented and future-oriented emoji designs to the Toss Face emoji set via <a href="https://emojipedia.org/glossary/#pua">Private User Area</a> characters.

Released 2022-03-28, this update to the Toss Face emoji set changed a series of previously divergent emoji designs&nbsp;to accurately reflect Unicode&#39;s&nbsp;recommendations.

Released 2022-02-28, the original version of Toss&#39; Toss Face emoji set provided support for emojis up to late 2020&#39;s <a href="/emoji-13.1/">Emoji 13.1</a> recommendations.
